How long for New Car at Port of Exit to arrival in the UK?

Featured Replies

I ordered a new Octy VRS a while ago. I contacted the dealer today for a progress update today. According to the new computer system its sat at the docks in Germany and has been there for about 10 days. Does anyone know from past experience how long it is from the car being sat in the docks until it makes it to the dealer in the UK? I'm hoping to get my hands on it before Christmas, I'm just wondering how realistic my hopes are.

It is quite variable and the cars in Emden, Germany just have to wait for a ship to come along.

2 ships arrived in Newcastle from Emden yesterday but the next one is not due until 9th Dec.

I still think you should get your car by Christmas.

Do you not want to wait until January and have a 2010 car?

Skoda have told my dealer that they will not force customers to take their car in December if it arrives at the dealer after 14th Dec, customer can chose to wait to Jan 1st

You should get it before Christmas.

Judging from what others have posted, normally it's around 3 weeks from date of build to delivery. Obviously yours looks a little longer than that as it's been sat at the docks for so long waiting for a boat. Also, VAG group had a new delivery tracking system fitted a couple weeks ago and during that time no cars moved for a week. As a consequence I suspect there's a bit of a backlog at the port which has caused your delay.

Yes my dealer said when they told me it had been built it will be 3 weeks factory to my driveway, which makes it the week before Christmas. I'm a bit torn whether to grab it ASAP or wait for a 2010 registration. We're off to family in North Yorkshire for new year which is a 600 mile round trip so I'd _MUCH_ rather do that in a shiny new Octy vRS than my knackered rattly Mondeo, plus I plan to keep the car for 5+ years so by that time the 2009/2010 value difference will be minimal, especially as if my current car is anything to go by it will have about 150k on the clock!

Hmm just wondering whether the extended delay at the docks (one thing I didn't ask was how long mine had been there), plus the week's down tools, plus transport time from the factory is pushing us back to a pre-XDS build date? Anyone asked their dealer this? I think mine's getting sick of me!!! :D
