Pre-FL Scout - anything to look for when buying

Featured Replies

I have plans to buy a pre-FL Scout in the next couple of months.

I was wondering if there are any common problems that I should be looking out for (done a search and can't find anything in particular)

I was also wondering if there would be any problems in fitting 45 profile tyres to it (more options of brands etc.), other than the harder ride (and reduced compliance off road)

thanks for any advice

WTF would you fit low profile tyres to an all road/4x4 car?

Reducing the profile using the existing wheels would reduce the rolling radius and therefore the engine would rev more for any given speed and therefore would use more fuel.

Don'nt do it

Just had fitted Uniroyal rainsport 2's --price was good for what appears to be a very good tyre: will have to wait and see how they wear tho. (As you'll know you are recommended to change all 4.)

re.probs--nothing to report apart from generic Octavia stuff you will find on the forums.

A common problem is with the lacquer on the wheels flaking off - several of us on here have had new wheel(s) under warranty...

It might look like a skateboard with 45 profile tyres.

fair enough on the tyres - thought i'd get some abuse :)

So no problems with rear suspension or haldex (main difference with this vs 2wd octavia

one more Q, i seem to remember seeing a half face lift scout - (had new rear end but old front end) - what was the rest of the spec on these?

Maybe someone just bought the new rear light clusters?

pretty sure it was a specific model by skoda

Just before the FL arrived the pre-facelift Scout got the new interior, new larger door mirrors and revised rear light clusters and boot lid badging.

Do a forum search for "Red Scout" for pictures...

Check for grinding noise when turning the steering left - this was part of a recall around the 07MY (steering rack replacement) as with most on the Golf MK5 platform - depends on what MY your looking at?

As above - check alloys - prone to delaminating on edges

check de-laminating windscreens (lower edge) - milky colour
