All,

I've just installed the sites db onto a new server. I'll be monitoring it along with the other foru boxes. We are not out of the woods yet as the problem is still unknown.

As frustrating as all this maybe, I am detirmined to get it working for you all. If I don't then there is hell to pay, not only from you all but from SWMBO who will need some sort of present buying for her this year.

I'll be tweaking and tuning the db nodes tomorrow, saturday. It needs to run and struggle for me to find the optimal settings, hopefully you will not notice the stuggle.

This leaves one weak item in our current setup, that of our nginx -> apache proxy setup. This box is locking up quite frequently, again a group of us are scratching our heads. A new server is ready, I'm going to be setting this up tonight and tomorrow. Our staging env appears to be holding up to various benchmarks of 1000 connection bombs.

More of course in time, but again I want to apologise for the recent issues, they are far from ideal, if even on the scale at the moment. Personally I'm annoyed and frustrated at it all, it feels like a problem I've created, yet at the same time nothing to do with me and crucially totally out of my control... for the moment.

Colin you dont have to apologise. We are very happy that the forum is kept going and I know that it takes very much of your precious time.

Thanks from me

Cheers form Germany

Mike

Colin,

Your perseverance is much appreciated, and yes it is frustrating not being able to log on when I want to, but that doesn't mean I don't understand the HUGE effort going on behind the scenes.

The world of Briskoda will be a better place once all problems are ironed out I'm sure

Mike you would not believe how much it peeves me that it does not work... I know it's not life or death, but it's very important to me personally that it runs and performs well.

Colin, I know. Otherwise the forum would have been off for ages. I can clearly see how important it is to you. But there is still a life next to the forum.

Hope everything works out well soon and your life can get back to normal again.

See it the other way, the forum worked and works hour after hour. And everything in life needs maintanance so once in a while. And this also takes time.

It might be frustrating when I want to take a look here, but knowing that you are working your butt of to get it going again, I just have to have patience.

Good work needs its time (and unfortunately working with computers takes a lot of it).

Cheers

(where did the donation link for you(r beer) go??)

Being in IT I know how you feel :)

Thanks again Colin for your continuing efforts, time and hard work.

We do appreciate it.

The new DB and webserver are now online.

I've thrown about 150k requests at it today and so far so good...

Search is the last item to migrate away fro our bugged VM's.

The DNS change has gone, it's on quite a short TTL so you should start to see the new site soon.

To find out if your DNS has changed, visit http://briskoda.net it should look like the forums, this is the new server.

If the search stops I'll reboot it, but going to have a break now as I need to recharge for the week ahead.

:) Colin, I wouldn't have the first clue how to run a site like this but it looks to me like you do a fantastic job...I certainly have no complaints. I'm a moderator on another Skoda forum so I can just about begin to imagine some of the work involved. I'm as dedicated to the Owners' Club as you are to Briskoda but there sometimes comes a point when other things MUST come first. If it'll help I don't mind giving your Briskoda a service, I'll try changing the points, setting the timing and greasing the kingpins.....it works wonders on all my old Skodas! :p

I can remap the server boxes if you like ;)

Kev

Colin, I notice you have a concurrency of 5 on your tests.

It might be worth upping this number so you have more threads running than you have CPU cores by a factor of 2 or 3 as this tends to cause things to fall over more quickly if it's a threading issue.

I've been testing it with 10 and 20, load rockets, but it stays up. I also only have 2 cores on the web node.

It's something else, net thread is redirect loops, but I've got a v low probability on this.
