service indicator

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a 56 plate Superb Elegance 2.0 140 on variable service, the car is now on 26k and was serviced during March 08 at 17k.

I took the car to the local dealer today to have the swimming pool removed from the car, due to the well known leaking pollen filter housing. I was asked several times about the service history of the car before the repair to the car would be agreed (skoda paying 70%)

When the dealer took the car into the workshop I was told that the 'service now' message had come up on the indicator, this is the first time it has come up.

I said to the dealer that isn't that a coincidence that the service now message has come up now, and he said 'I hope you are not accusing us of doing anything' and then he said they couldn't make the message come up.

We had a bit of a joke about it and then he showed be how to check the indicator to see how long it will be to the next service.

Two questions really;

Does anyone know wether I should of had a previous warning such as 'Service in 1000km' etc?

and

If the sensor in the oil brings on the service message then why hasn't it come on since it was reset?

Thanks.

It sounds very much like the service indicator was set to time and distance schedule (every 10k) rather than variable servicing, this is not an un-common thing that some of the numptie fitters do.

Hi Gismo,

Thanks for the reply, the car was last serviced 20 months ago and it has only been 9450 miles in that time, if it was set to time then wouldn't the service message have come up before?

I can also get the SERVICE NOW message to display by doing the following;

1) switch of the engine, press the B button (RHS of display), and hold it down.

2) switch the ignition on and release the reset button B. The text SERVICE NOW appears in the display. (Page 17 of the manual).

What do you think about my two questions:

Does anyone know if I should of had a previous warning such as 'Service in 1000km' etc? (as per page 17 of the owners manual).

and

If the sensor in the oil brings on the SERVICE NOW message, then why hasn't it come on since it was reset? Surely it would still be able to sense that the oil needs changing?

Thanks.

I really do recommend you go for mileage and time based oil changes. Change the oil every year or 10k miles whichever comes first. Your car will reward you for doing that.
