Novas

Featured Replies

Oddly I'm reminising about my old cars one of which was a nova. I liked it but hated the stigma attached to them in the 90s and early 00s. I drive an octavia now and thoroughly enjoy but always prefer older cars for a bit of fun. I'm aware novas are generally a ****e car but that doesn't Stop me liking them. My question is do u think the chav stigma is going going gone now that there are very few left. I'm half tempted to get one as a second car. Standard obviously but not sure if I'd be labelled a boy racer idiot...

Thoughts? or should I just get my coat and drive a proper car??

I reckon there are probably 3 types of Nova's left

1 - the bad modified kind

still driven my chavvy boy racers - normally with a body kit that was cool at the time but hasn't aged well, a massive noisy attention grabbing zorst and while it may say GTE is still has the crappy 1.0 it started out as (theres of one these that has commuted to a garage across from my house for years and has always had more primer than paint!)

2 - the unmodified kind

driven by someone's gran who has owned it since new and done little over 5000 miles in those 20 years

3 - the good modified kind

gernally looked after kept in half decent shape and lacks any shouty modifications, but has a monster engine under the bonnet, calibra turbo i believe is popular! B)

think the chavs have mostly moved on now.

A tasteful one with the right engine would be a hoot :)

I bet theres not an un-molested SRi left on the planet :)

Carlton GSi 3000 is where its at :D

A brown 2-door saloon with a red top would be awesome :D

I know a guy putting a LET (having replaced the turbo with a big supercharger) into a beige saloon. and doing a RWD conversion whilst he's at at

Awesome :D

I'd swoop on that.

The stigma has virtually evaporated now.

The Nova was actually quite a good little car in its day imo, only spoiled by the chav fraternity.

Sri's and GTE's/GSi's are fetching good money for clean unmolested examples.

I've always thought un-modified performance cars were the best, and that's now being reflected in the values of such rare examples of performance Vauxhalls/Fords etc.

My Late Father-In-Law's old "A" reg 1.0 saloon is still being used by a neighbour to drive to work.

£2995???? :o

£2995???? :o

Rarity factor kicking in now.

If it's mint and unmolested, I'd imagine it' probably is worth something around that figure now.

I was down at the NEC last month for TG live, and in the adjoining classic car show were some absolutely gorgeous old timers up for sale.

An Anglia 105E caught my eye,...taking me back to my youth like....absolutely stunning, but for £5995!!!

Went back after watching Clarkson's performance, and it had been sold!!

Just goes to show ey? If someone has the money and wants it that much, they'll have it.

Can only be an play thing investment.

the V6 engine fits in the front, just

i know of a nova running 480bhp and can tell you now there isnt a car on this forum that could even stay close to this thing its a monster.........

slough is a funny old area some monster cars around

fiesta running a noble engine

fiesta running a subaru engine

the list goes on lol

I cant get over the fact that doing a national search for Vauxhall Novas on Autotrader comes up with Just 5 cars.

Saw a last of the line GSi the other month in that purple colour they came in, looked brilliant! Totally standard.

As above, as long as it isn't terribly modified I think the Nova has gotten over it's chavvy image.

Theres a yellow 1.4 SR in the Readers Cars section of this months Practical Classics. I think the time to buy low milage and good condition Novas is now , before the prices start to go up.

Theres a bloke at work with an immaculate red nova. All I know is its a 2.1l red top engine pushing 211bhp and im sure he said it did the 1/4 mile in either 13.2 or 13.6!

All that its got inside is 2 seats and a roll cage, the whole car looks brand new!

That sounds awesome!

my brother wants a nova for some reason told him to steer well clear due to rot like mad and are all nearly battered now

You will be very hard pushed to find a clean or mint nova now but when they do come along for sale they usually have the price tag to match !

My brother has had loads of them from a 1.2 to a 2.0 16v red top which was fantastic fun and fooking fast !

His girlfriend also has a nova with a red top in it and it is MINT and gets garaged for winter,

He bought a very high spec and well known nova a few years ago and is in the process of building a 500bhp turbo engine for it because he said the 2.0 red top that had a set of throttle bodies on it producking 210 bhp "wasnt enough" !!! :wonder:

Here is a couple of pics of it

Is it 11k, could be 111k. The reason I ask is that didn't these older cars mileage only go upto 99,999

and all absolutely useless as soon as you point them at a corner. Never understood the appeal of having a car thats only good in a straight line. Personally id rather have a car thats fast point to point rather than a quater mile monster

I would love a completely standard Nova Sport. Only 501 ever made, and most were trashed in rallies.

Spec was:

White standard bodied Nova 3 door, with Irmscher decals.

Irmscher inlet with Twin Weber 40's, high lift Irmscher cam, 4 into 1 exhaust and uprated clutch. 100bhp from 1.3 SR engine which wasn't bad in 1985!

Try find one now....
