Basically im after installing some lights in the footwell so that i can either switch them myself (will fit a switch) but also to come on when i open the door, is ther any auto electricians on here that can give me some advise??

it depends on what lights you want to install, if they are very low wattages you could use the feed from the normal inside lights just above the windscreen, if you are wanting quite a large wattage you would need to put some form of relay from the battery.

But just drop a wire down from the light, down the door post to your extra lights and you should be fine !

There are permanent lives on the light switch, as long as the load you will be using is fairly low. Turn switch between 0 and 1st position push in, turn to 1 and pull and it comes out. There is also a permanent live to the radio/cd unit.
