Hi all

Just a quickie to introduce myself jfgarford, recently bought an Octavia VRS after several months looking and decided to gamble on a v.cheap yellow one that I knew had a bit of an uncared for past and hoped that the german/Czech engineering would see me through. The early signs are not particularly good. I've already developed a miss fire on startup from cold, my headlights are not properly adjusted, as they are just kind of hanging inside the casing, in additin to which the garage tells me i've got a bit of play in the steering. And just this week i've developed some weird problem with the electronics which is making my locking mechanism go into some kind of mental lockin then unlocking cycle that continues intermittently wether the car is running or not and some how left my indicator on overnight and flattened the battery. DONT GO CHEAP.

All of this despite having gone through an MOT as a condition of purchase and having a Defra inspection as well as having done a HPI check which told me the car had had one previous owner, which I later found out was totally incorrect and had in fact had 4 previous owner and had been cat C/D. Me thinks I'm owed some compensation from these people but sense it will be difficult. the defra guy did say the car had a few minor faults but didn't pick-up on the play in the steering which i consider quite substantial.

I love the model and really want to get this car sorted but i'm starting to think I need to sell up and get a better conditon black one as I should have done in the first place.

Moan over, I shall now search the forums for advice on whats causing the faults as the garage(s) seem a bit stumped. 200 quid and the misfire wasn't resolve and now a different garage can't work out whats going on with the electronics as of today. AAAAAaaaaaaarrrrgggh :'(

Any advice would be much appreciated

Welcome :)

Sell it and get a decent one off here :)

welcome mate!! am new 2

Greetings

Misfire may be coil packs - preety common problem.

Indicator stalk operates the parking lights so pushing down with key off will turn on parking light.

Headlights - never heared this before.

Locking could be a couple of things, faulty convience unit or one of the wires in the door looms getting a bit frayed. Need to get a diagnostic done and see if anything comes up.

Hi all

Thankyou all for your warm welcome(s). And additional thanks for the Tech Help.

I put THe yellow beast into the garage regards to the locking and the guy wasn't sure what was going on but got to the Central convinience control and disconnected it which stopped it playing around and meant I could lock it manuallu. I then had a quick look at the unit inside and noted alot of atmospheric moisture on the circuit board so dried it out in the airing cuboard and reconnected it. I did this yesterday and it was back to working, but will see how things are when I have more time.

As for the misfire I think i will deffinately change the coils as this problem comes up frequently on here I noticed. but think I May need to clean something to do with the Turbo as it gets clogged with soot??? is this right??? clearly I'm no mechanic, but i'll have a play at doing some stuff, is this part, whatever it is easy to reach and clean????????

Anbyone know where to get a cheap set of coils, and are they going to be a rectified version of the ones on there????????

many thanks again

Ican see this sight being invaluble

Although I bought a bit of a stincker, it is still a hell of a car for the money.

JFgarford
