It does it when accelerating,noticed yesterday arcing from one of the distributor cap leads,maybe that is the cause???

Get it to a diagnostic machine, if simple they'll do it on the spot.-- Need more info about type fuel, engine size etc etc

As far as i know the sparking only happens during starting the engine,also now my battery light indicator comes on but just for a split second very faintly.

My alternator is not charging the battery,according to the AA man who brought me home is this a new one or can i change the brushes?

Depends, you can try changing the brushes but sometimes it's more severe than that.

Took the regulator off 1x brushes has dissapeard the other is worn down a lot ,bought a new reg with brushes all working ok now,thank you.
