Heated rear window repair?

Featured Replies

I was wondering if there was any way of repairing the heated rear window. One of the lines has burnt out at the very edge. I saw it the other morning when clearing my car of snow as it was glowing bright orange in the corner and now it doesn't work at all. On inspection it's clear that it has burnt away and is no longer a complete circuit.

I think another thermostat may be needed as I drove my car for 45 minutes yesterday and the guage only moved a small amount. As soon as I was stood in traffic it dropped to the bottom again.

You used to be able to get a small pot of heated window repair paint from Halfords - my Dad used this on a car years ago. Only downside was that it was silver and difficult to aply as neatly as a HRW line. Don't know if you can still get it, but maybe worth a try?

The repair paint is still available, although not cheap. i did a neat repair by masking off the glass, and built up the paint in layers.

As above, and it does sound like the stat is open.

I'm presuming your car is a diesel.... I drive lots of different vans and trucks as part of my job.

Both of my cars are diesel too. ALL of the vehicles I have driven recently during the cold snap have been very slow to warm

up. It's just a diesel thing.. Both our cars are well maintained and looked after... And the work vehicles are in some cases nearly brand new...

I think that maybe its just the cold snap mate to be honest.... Here in Essex taking wind chill into consideration its stayed in the minuses

for days... They're just pretty extreme conditions IMO.... I'd bet it sorts itself out around the same time the weather does....

If its petrol.... Maybe it is the thermostat..... If I'm right and it is a diesel then its probably normal behaviour in the cold.

I ran mine for over an hour today with the blowers

on full to melt the 6 inches of snow on it.... it's kinda stranded in the back garden at the moment...

My temp needle barely lifted.... The snow took ages to fall off the car..... Diesels just don't really run hot like a petrol car...

(Bracing myself to be shot down in flames now.....)

I have a spare rear heated window... As I use to work for Laddaws....

It is a diesel, I think I will leave the stat for now then. Can't say I'm in the mood to change it in this weather anyway. We had quite a bit of snow here to. (Ipswich)

My car is an Octy 1, accidently created this thread in the wrong forum but as it was a general question I thought I would leave it as it is. I assume the rear window you have is for a Fabia.

I tried him earlier and it wouldn't work, checked I could send one to you and that worked.
