Battery Change

Featured Replies

Folks,

I drive a 2005 Octavia Mk1 vRs. The current cold snap has identified the need to change the car's battery (still starts first time ( the car is parked outside in the street at night) but turns over alot slower. Do I need to take it to a dealer (throttle body reset ??) or can I can take to my local tyre fitting/exhaust/battery outlet ?? Any advise would be welcome.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,

Jim

Hi Jim

What makes you think it is the "throttle body reset ??" that need doing ?

if you had put your location in your profile, and I was close enough, I could have checked it for you !

But please say if the battery is original, and if so poss it is time for a change

Just buy a new battery and whack it in yourself!

It seems to be a common misconception that disconnecting batteries on modern cars stops them from working properly. It's a myth probably spread by dealers!

You'll just lose the trip data in the cluster, radio settings and auto windows. All of which can be reset with 30seconds and one finger.

You won't notice anything else.

Radiotwo,

My favourite radio station as well. Had forgot to update my profile on the new website with a location - done now (1 or 2 miles from you !!). Ref the throttle body reset - I read it in a post yesterday when I did a search. I'm assuming it's the original battery but I've only had the car since July. I reckon I'll contact the guy who used to service my Vectra V6 and ask him to change it for me. I'm getting too old and too cold to do it myself.

Thanks,

Jim
