VRS LE Cold Start Confusion.

Featured Replies

I have owned my petrol VRS for around 6 months now, and every time I have started it in the morning for my journey to work, the engine starts and sits at 1200Rpm ish for a few seconds and then drops back down to the 1000Rpm mark once warmed up a little.

Now it has got really cold, it starts up and stays at 1000Rpm, which i found rather strange.

It isnt causing any problems, it still starts and runs fine, other than being a bit noiser due to the cold, and probably just being able to hear a little more due to it not revving so much.

If anything i would have thought that it would rev more on starting during the cold weather??

Any ideas why it would do what its doing, just out of curiosity?

Could be that lower revs are kinder at lower temps maybe. Would'nt worry about it.

Thanks, I suppose that would make sense.

Im not worried, as it seems to start and drive fine, just found it a little strange.

Noticed mine today idles just under 1000rpm when cold.

Well I am glad I am not the only one, I presume like mine, when it is warmer out it idles at 1100-1200?

I've not notices the idle speed but it has sounded more noisy the last few days, almost like the clicking sound you get from the charcoal / exhaust thingy, but it is there even after a motorway run (although ambient temp was -6.5).

Probably because the oil is thicker when cold....
