I'm quite fancying a 2.0 tdi 170 elegence Yeti, as my next company car ( on lease). One of the things fueling my interest is the 4x4 aspect in winter, together with a good amount of oomph. I drive over the Penines each day, and also go up into the North Yorks Moors to see family each Xmas. However, a lot of what I have read is that in the snow, to make the 4x4 worthwhile...you really need a set of winter tyres....perhaps on a spare set of steel rims.

So, I've got a couple of questions, please.

1) For those who have a spare set of winter tyres and rims, how much did it cost?

2) Is it possible to have a spare set of rims and winter tyres as an optional extra?....if so how much would it cost?.....Would it be possible to request this with a lease car?

Any advice or experience would be much appreciated.

Someone on the Volvo forum has just let me know that "My Tyres" sell steel wheel+winter tyres packages. About 140 per corner for my V50.

I have ordered rims from the dealer at £41, tyres from mytyres at £69 for Nokian WR G2 205/55 R16 94H XL and fitting at a local tyre place with valve and balance no more than £10.

Total £120 a corner.

If I decide to fit wheel trims the correct Yeti ones are an eye watering £26 each.

This tyre plus rim is not available as a package with mytyres although they do offer the V rated at £133 + £9.90 P&P, which for a 170 might be the better rating as the H is up to 130mph.
