Brand new VRS with Swirls on one panel...HELP!

Featured Replies

Picked up my brand new Octavia VRS in Race Blue today and was gutted to see that the ROS quarter or the car was covered in Swirl marks....Having just spent a small fortune on Microfibre pads & cloths to preserve my pride & joy I specifically asked the dealer to be extra careful when PDI & cleaning not to mark the paintwork....Anyway, the damage is now done so what do I use to remove the Swirls ?.... I don't want to use a machine on the car and I was hoping someone could recommend a product I can use by hand.... I'm tempted to have a go with 'T' Cut but think that this may be a little harsh on brand new paint....Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

T-cut original might be best.

Have no fear of machining. ;)

Take it back? Demand they fix it?

If I'd specifically warned them about marking the paintwork, I'd take it and show them tomorrow / take some pics of it under street light / petrol station forecourt lights / whatever shows them and I'd be getting them to pay to have it professionally corrected by someone of your choosing. Damned dealers :( - I KNOW they're going to do this to mine too, no matter how many times I tell them not to touch it.

If you're going to attempt to reduce them yourself by hand, how about Meguiars Swirl-X?

Sorry to hear about your paintwork on your new car and this is a shame........... emoticon-0124-worried.gif

Having just detailed a brand new vRS Octy Estate delivered from the dealer a day before the owner just instructed them to remove the transport film and not touch it in any other way and on this occasion both the owner and I were shocked to find no marks on the paintwork at all after close inspection.

Without wanting to be rude how long has the car been sat around before you received it? Has it been sat somewhere for a while? Also did they mention that they would wash and prep the car before they delivered it to you?

I wouldn't suggest using T-Cut as it's a little harsh and your possibly better off trying Scratch X try products but I would suggest you find someone local with a machine that can get these out for you in no time, trouble is you really want the whole car doing and protecting from the start................where are you located as I am sure someone on here will be close with a machine that may be able to help you out?

I am not a fan of dealers to be honest but judging by the vRS Jules and I completed at the weekend there are some out there that do the right thing and 'listen' to your requirements........... emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Sorry to hear this on your new car.

It's a little strange that the swirls are confined to just one panel. I've seen first hand valeters 'scrub' at marks on a panel with an old/dirty cloth & some polish they had lying around, end result being what you have.

Not wanting to worry you but another scenario I've experienced is a car getting damaged, goes off to bodyshop to get rectified & again one of their famous 'polishing cloths' are used.

Whereabouts in the country are you?

As Simon said I'm sure they'll be someone closeby with a Paint thickness gauge & PC/Rotary who would be more than happy to assess & whizz over the panel for you...He's also right in that both t-cut and to a certain extent scratch-x are far too aggressive for what you need.

Let a body repair shop deal with it, if you want a top quality finished job. --But that's after you confront garage who supplied car to foot the bill.--After all it's your pride and joy we're talking about.!!

Possibly had a minor scratch on that panel, and the swirling is a result of the (poor) attempt to fix it?

Didn't want to say anything like that Chris but that was what I was leaning towards.............sounds like if it's just that panel that it's been locally repaired...............

Same idea as Chris and I Babs.............

Guys, thanks for the advise....The car had only been in the dealers for less than a week and there is no evidence of any damage to the panel....It is strange that the swirls are confined to just the one panel and I suspect that whoever has started to clean the car on the PDI has realised that they're using a manky rag!!...To be honest on a dull day like today you have to look quite hard to see them, but I just know that on a sunny day or under artificial light they're gonna stand out.

I'm located in Colwyn Bay, North Wales so if anyone knows of a good detailer around here please shout up.
