What bluetooth kit to purchase?

Featured Replies

Anyone got the OEM kit fitted in conjunction with Columbus? Is it worth the outlay do you reckon?

Do we know any good (ie cheap!) suppliers of an OEM kit?

I've just bought one from this guy;

http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/www_carsystems_pl/

and am now awaiting delivery. I bought because I could not be 100% sure of the Fiscon and my boss has a VW Scirocco with the OEM fitted and its absolutely awsome. I've commented a couple of times to him about the sound wuality on calls - excellent.

Will post on here once I've got the kit. Incidentally its plug and pay supposedly and I paid £210 for the "C" version.

Without any doubt - Used with the new Columbus firmware and the voice activation feature it's truly fantastic emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

There are some good deals on eBay, but new UK sourced unit tend to be pricy due to the Euro rate -

Right, looks like an OEM one is the way to go then.

Which revision unit though, B, C or D are all on the 'bay. Which one do I need for an Octy II with Columbus+Maxidot?

I installed the OEM Bluetooth Phone Kit today.

Part number : 1Z0 035 729 C

Software H35 / 0170 - prod date 08 2009

Kit went in sweet as a nut in conjunction with the MDI I fitted the other month and the killer is, I paired an iPhone 3GS with no issues whatsoever and it sucked the phonebook into the MFD3 as well.

Kit fitted behind the aircon controls and wire routing took 60min and a couple of skinned knuckles. Sound quality is cracking!

Thanks for the advice guys - one VERY happy bunny here. All I need to do is go down and get Stu to code so it appears in the Maxidot.

Stu??? :-)

I have the OEM one in my 07 Octy (Stream Audio, not MFD) and is an OK bit of kit, obv doesnt integrate as much as when people have the touchscreen MFD's though.

But, just to throw something else into the mix, I have a Bury cc9060 touchscreen HF kit in my freelander and is superb.

As well as been touch screen, its voice activated (one press on the screen to initiate) and can answer calls with voice too.......

It is compatible with loads more phones (check the phone you have is compatible with the OEM one first, a few arnt fully compatible), will download contacts, recent calls and on most phones will download existing and new SMS messages and read them out to you once requested. I beleive with a SW update to them, they will read out Emails too from Blackberries...... A very cool bit of kit, priced at just over £100 and simples to fit. There is I believe a semi protable version too, the CC9040, same features, just in a movable box.

Please excuse my ignorance, but is there a microphone included in the kit and where does it fit?

You'd need to check with the seller that the mic is included, but it normally is.

The genuine OEM mic clips into the front courtesy light hence the grill bit.

If you have the factory fitted Columbus with voice activation, then the mic is already fitted, so you just need to connect to the back of the Columbus unit.

How easy was it to fit behind the aircon controls? Did you use the retrofit cable? If so does the non can bus compliant cable cause any issues?

Sorry about so many question in one post!

Hi guys. I am looking to get this bluetooth fitted in my 07 vRS. I have the maxidot/MFD2 (would love that Columbus) - so I am guessing that the OEM kit is the way to go? Can it be controlled without a mulitfunction steering wheel?

Big question is how do I get one, and is there anyone that would fit it, as I am mechanically/technically useless and really do not want to be taking the car to pieces as per Stu's instructions. Any ideas? Cost not a (massive) concern.

Thanks for that. have pm'd Shark for a quote. Would like the OEM if possible, rather than something like a parrot but just wasn't sure I would be able to find someone to install. How does the OEM Bluetooth get on with the iPhone by the way (3gs)?

I've had no problems with my setup. Only slight niggles are that occasionally it disconnects mid journey, but then it usually reconnects straightaway and the sound quality isn't quite as good as my old Sony Ericsson phone (but then the iPhone isn't particularly great as a phone - fantastic gadget though ;) )

How does the OEM system compare to the Fiscon system. Do you need the MFD3 system for the Fiscon?

vRSCARL just installed the Fiscon Basic Plus kit. Infact there is a post titled "does your maxi-dot do this" might be worth asking him what he thinks of it so far.

I've seen the factory bluetooth with the colobus in action on youtube and I have to say it looked very good. Mine has the factory bluetooth with just the bolero and its a very good system, voice activation works well as long as you are clean and remember what you have stored people as lol.

I have just installed a Fiscon Basic Plus kit in my vRS and I think it is brilliant

Dont have voice activation but I'm working on that ;)

But everything else is the same as OEM plus a few extras like the digital speed read out on maxidot and text messages displayed on MFD3 or Maxidot

Also will do A2DP audio from my iPhone 3GS. It's also copied the phonebook onto the MFD3 aswell so everything is hunky dory

Will this unit give you voice control on a Bolero & Columbus. Thanks in advance.

Both 2010 models in Australia.

Edited by mutant

with that kit 1Z0 035 729 C

does that allow the bolero to be voice activated or is that only for Columbus

ALSO will this ki actually work with Bolero Radio Radio, a New FL OCtavia and an iPhone 3gs
