ABS & TC lights lit after brief drive in the snow.

Featured Replies

Needless to say last thursday i came home and parked up without a fault present.

Later on i came down a hill applying the brakes where needed and having alot of interaction with the ABS, i came to a stop at the bottom of a street i turned left and carried on driving until i came to a street which involved alot of front wheel spinning to get anywhere.

Shortly after the ABS and ASR light came on and have stayed on nearly all of the time since.

Starting the car the ABS light comes on and stays lit until i've drove off it goes out and both the TCS and ABS work until i get over 15mph, after 15mph both the ASR and ABS light come on and stay lit. I then loose the ABS and ASR functions.

I did skid on packed down snow/ice on saturday and slid into the curb slapping both of the nearside wheels against the curb.

Which seamt to sort it out till sundays flurry, where I got stuck trying to come out of a car park. Both front wheels were spinning at a steady rate, and the light came on again and has been on since.

Now i've just come across this thread Fabia Battery Problem which looks from suggestions as though the battery could be causing a fault with the Fabia. I had a battery check done by some top notch tool a few weeks since. Its a tool BMW use for measuring the batteries which said 84% and "Charge". Which i decided to do when i got home. Does anyone think this could be related to my problem?

I think my warm starting problems happen because of a weak starter motor, and not the battery although i do have my doubts about the battery at times. It seems to hold its charge and start the car happily though until it becomes really cold where the car almost spins the first time and comes to a halt before it carries on and fires up straight away.

I've read many threads suggesting "Wheel Speed Sensors" and the "MAF" sensor, the car seems to go quite well at the moment. So i dont think its the MAF.

I was trying to get to Nicks on Sunday before it started snowing, so i've not yet been able to get it on any diagnostics.

I've to check the connections but i've got a feeling its actually one of the sensors, can anyone else give any input?

I've had exactly the same problem with my 07 Octy 1.9tdi. I set off to collect my daughter from work along a by-road which has not been treated since the snow on sat night. Made it only 300meters when ABS light came on and I think my nearside rear wheel started locking intermittently followed by the TC light coming on. Drove back home and parked up. Checked car 10minsago and TC light has gone out but ABS still on. Need help please

Bump!

Had the same this morning after getting out my drive, I just assume that the TC was working overtime so confused itsef , a brief stop, restart the engine and it was cleared.

I will do a scan when I get home this afternoon and see what it throws up.

If you do a RR day you can get this as the rear wheels are not moving and the front going fast.

If you can find a bit of clear road and get a short drive on it, then tha system should clear itself. If not then it could be something more serious.

The fact that it was cured for a while by the kerb impact makes me wonder if you have a sticky hub sensor? You could always give the inside of the near side wheels a tap with a rubber mallet & see if alters anything?

I rang the AA at 10.30hrs and they promised to have someone with me between 60-90 mins. Someone did arrive at 13.30 ! Well it is Christmas Eve and I was glad to see him at any time. He took one look and said if the light ABS light wouldn't go off he would not recommend driving the car at all. My heart sank but then he suggested a short drive to see if the system would reset itself and lo and behold after 50-60 meters the light went off. He then drove it himself to satisfy himself that ABS was working and declared all safe. He reckoned a sensor had been affected by a piece of ice or frozen snow and the car needed a short drive to check and clear the fault. So Cheezemonkhai it looks like you can give yourself a deserved clap on the back ! Happy Christmas to all and safe driving

Mines a frequent light, it just seems strange that i drove home.

It snowed for a while, i then went out a couple hours after being home and had the fault appear.

Its stuck with me since, ive thought about having a poke around. But the snow/ice and extreme cold has put me off somewhat.
