Changed car - what to do?

I had a Vauxhall Omega and after a huge hassle sorted out an Op-COM that worked with it. It was third time lucky with this oriental device.

It worked so well that I decided it was time to replace the car. So I traded in the Omega for a 2006 Octy2.

Has anyone used one of these Opel diagnostic units with VAG Com? I've downloaded the 2 softwares from the Ross Tech site and the older software version 4091 seems to be recognised. The interface I have was sold as can bus compatible, and worked with recent OPCOM software. It is supposed to detect different car interface pinouts and auto connect. It did auto identify the Omega.

I haven't dared plug it into the Skoda yet, and I haven't really understood the difference between the free trial version of VAG Com and the full version.

I don't want to change anything or even reset anything. I'd just like to run a test and get some record of what works and, if anything, what doesn't while the car is new to me. Additionally, the main dealer is having the car back in the New Year to remedy a couple of faults I've found, so it would be nice to run a check before then.

Would it be safe to just plug in and test? Would it be safer to just load a more general purpose software that just gives raw codes to check against a list? It was really good on the Omega being able to run the engine and see live data.

Any guidance gratefully received.

I think that in the short term contact a member from the vag-com owners map at the top of this forum. Most of us(i believe) will do a scan for a couple of beers or even for free if doing it for a Freedom member.

I very much doubt it would work, In as much as 409.1 is for K-Line and then without a license the best you could expect would be a scan for DTC's.

I can't recall anyone who reported using the OPCOM device to run VAG-COM or VCDS. In fact, the developer of OPCOM is a reseller of VCDS. If it were compatible, I would think he would not be buying our interfaces. Make sense?

I wouldn't see any reason why the OPCOM interface would do anything bad on the car. As to the difference between the trial version and the full version, you should check the Function Chart.

As I said above, I can no reason for concern about plugging in. However, I don't expect the interface to talk with VAG-COM. It will not hurt to try it.
