My Farther has a skoda felicia hes working on he has had the steering wheel off and know tne light is on. our uestion is does the light always come on and stay on after disconnection and reconnection?

ok, the airbag light probably came on becuase you switched on the ignition without the airbag being plugged into the loom. if you use vag-com and go into group 15(airbags) and clear the fault codes from the memory that should be all you need to do to clear it

We have tried going in with vagcom it has the sixteen pin connecter but it does not recognize anything it wont even load the vehicle information (even for engine managment) is this because it pre 2000 1996/7

Nope, ALL felicias will work OK on vagcom if you've got a working setup, IIRC. I've had a 1995 one working OK on it, and 1997 and 1998 as well.

i had a few problems using an ebay vag-com cable on my pickup, the hood of the 16 pin plug was slightly too long and wasn't mating fully into the diagnostics port so it was causing glitching and error messages, if you pop the drivers side air vent out you can access the 2 philips screws using a very long scewdriver and pop the 16 pin edc connector out of it's surrounding shroud, that's what i did to mine and it's been fine ever since

the connector just unclips from this shroud

then you can just let it dangle down to use it, i have cable tied mine up up the way so it doesn't foul the pedals

As he had the steering wheel off, I hope that he took care not to turn the slip ring (AKA spiral link or watch spring) for the air bag. If the fault clears all is well, if not, this would be the first place to look.

Why did he take the steering wheel off? When the alternator has charging problems (which is not uncommon on the 1.3), this will sometimes bring the air bag light on.
