Rear Light Always on (Octavia Estate)

Featured Replies

Hi all and seasons greetings!

This might be a simple question so apologies in advance if it is and if this is the wrong section but I have spent some time looking for answers on here and failed to find them so here goes:

I have an Octavia estate mk2, which I usually drive, but recently the wife has used the car for a few days, and now (!not sure its her fault though ;) ) the rear middle light (the one on top of the rear door) is always on and won't switch off..I have found nothing in the users manual about it or on the web and i'm pretty sure its a setting somewhere which I am not aware of..

Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Kind regards,

Demetris

Simple ones first, like the switch is in the correct position, and all of the doors are shut.

Could one of the door switches be frozen? Try giving them all a prod.

That's your centre break light, it looks like there is a short somewhere, or the switch on the break peddle is faulty

Thanks GriffoVRS and Skippy41..I have tried all the light switch positions (including fog lights) and checked all doors, and the thing is the only time i can get the middle break light to go off is when i open the boot! :-|

I will check to see if the rear lateral break lights change when the break pedal is pressed to see if there is a problem with the switch on the break pedal (but then shouldnt they be on too if the pedal switch was faulty?).

Kind regards,

Demetris.

is it just the outside 3 leds on the centre brake light that are staying on? If so isnt that to indicate the one of the brakelight bulbs is gone

Open the bootlid and check if there is water on the left behind the lining.

There are some electricity lines and a connector. Mostly this connector is flooded.

It can be a broken line to the rear washer or just water that run into this raea.

Hi GT, no its the whole array of LEDs

Cheers,

Hi Demetris

I had the same problem on my estate last december, and following advice on these pages found it was a short in the large electrical connector block behind the lhs boot trim. The rear window wiper wash pipe commonly leaks onto the block giving the symptoms you describe. Apparently this is relatively common and easy (free) to fix.

Kevin

Hi Kevin

Thanks for your reply!

I'll have a look there and see if I can see anything there that i can fix.

Failing that, she's due in for a service soon, so i might just have it sooner rather than later and get the garage to have a go. Hopefully the battery won't go completely flat before then as its a long push to the garage:)

Kind regards,

Dem.

Hi Magic

Will have a look and post back here if that is the problem!

Danke schön!

+1!

Exactly what was up with my Elegance hatch after washer fluid soaked the electrical multiplugs

Mike

Well I had the same problem, the only time it went off was when the boot(estate model) was lifted.

I checked the washer and it was fine, after a week or so it went out.

So I'm just waiting for it to go on again.

I believe it must be the brake light switch

Thank you to everyone for your comments and suggestions.

She has just come back from service and yes it was indeed a leak from the rear wash pipe causing a short!

All sorted now!

Kind regards,

Demetris
