Wheel wobble?

Featured Replies

Hello my Fabia Vrs has developed a very annoying steering wheel wobble at all speeds, i recently had one front tyre changed to me damaging the other one and was just wondering if it was a case of getting the wheels re-balanced to cure this? any help would be very much appreciated. thanks Glenn

could be wheel bearing or could need re tracking

Tracking won't cause a wobble. Most likely is a damaged or out-of -balance wheel, though there are other possibilities.

How did you damage the tyre you had to replace?

Agreed. At best a wheel has gone out of balance, otherwise it could be a buckled wheel or a deformed tyre (going egg shaped). Best to have it checked out ASAP

I would say it was a buckled wheel. I can only guess you damaged the tyre due to the slightly icey road conditions we have had recently resulted in a short visit to a kerb.... Just a guess and not an assesment of your driving. If this is not the case then please accept my apology now.

Hello, thanks for the replies, the tyre was replace a couple of weeks ago due to a puncture on my other one so nothing to do with the weather, it wasnt doing it before and had been drivng about for a week as normal i only noticd it today after not driving the car much due to the weather. thanks

Appologies for my abrupt assumption, I can only say that it must be out of balance but that normally only comes into play at about 60 MPH.... I have no idea now if that is not the case.

As an added thought, it could be due to different tread depths on the same end of the car. Not likely but a possibility I guess.... I know I am about to be shot down in no time...

Appologies for my abrupt assumption

No worries it was a natural assumption to make due to the weather we have had recently

If I were you I'd go back to the place that fitted the tyre and get them to check it out for you.

It only occurs over 30mph, ill get it checked tomorrow

Glenn, I had an annoying wheel wobble on my Leon.

It only happened at motorway speeds & seemed to come from the rear.

I had the wheels re-balanced & all was OK after that.

Quick update, i had the wheels re balanced and nothing has changed, i even changed to wheels over to make sure it wasn't buckled or if it would make a diffrence but no luckt. There now seems to be a noise at motorway speeds which is a loud grumble it sounds like an aeroplane propeller :S. could this be th wheel bearing? thanks

Possibly wheel bearing, or worst case gearbox.

More than likely a wheel bearing.

re the wobble at 60mph, I have a fabia mpi 2002 model and when travelling at 60 the steering wobbles but once past 60 wobble stops, does anyone know what causes the wobble and possible solutions

Defo wheel balance needing done.

I have had the wheels balanced and tracked at a cost of £30 inc repair to tyre as had punture, but still get the wobble when doing 60mph, but dont get it at 50 or 70 for some strange reason any ideas

A transient wobble at a specific speed has to be a tyre or wheel problem. Try to find a garage that can do dynamic wheel balancing. They balance the wheels and tyres while they are still on the car.
