Columbus on Ebay...

Featured Replies

AFAIU there are no code cards - period. Any new units have their codes generated and stored at the factory pc system.

Even true refurb, there are no code cards. If in doubt, ask continental who make them ;)

So if i went into a Main Stealer & ordered a new Columbus, or had a dealer warranty exchange on a unit, how would I or the dealer get the code ?

Just wondering

G

I was told by the dealer that there are no code cards and that the coding to the car is done via a link to the factory and is secure. The code cards are made by sellers who have cracked the codes of the units they are selling. This is what I was told by the dealer, I have no personal expertise in this.

So the supposedly secure system used by Skoda isn't that secure then ? Defeats the object doesn't it ?

As I understand it, they either use software to break the code, recode the radio, replace the cpu board with a virgin unlocked one and set their own code, or in the case of one member, open the radio up and solder across 2 points bypassing the code. There may also be a way of decoding if there is a coding method (key) which can be reverse enginered if you have the serial - bit like windows licence keys can be retrieved from XP machines.

The way I understand the system works securely, radio is made and given random code. This is logged against the serial number of the CPU board. Data is encypted and piped to Skoda.

Skoda take a unit off the shelf, put into a car. Either then they have to input the unit serial against a chassis at the factory in the computer system, or the ECU can read the serial number of the radio and ties the 2 that way?

Either way the code cards arent legit. I bet if you compared those offered by the different sellers, you'd find they're not the same design.

Why not do it as an exercise? Scan your card... Mask out important details in red? Post here with the name of the eBay seller? Might even have something for the sweeney here :o)
