Is there an equivalent to a Haynes manual for the MK2?

Featured Replies

Reason I ask is I've always done my own servicing, for the routine jobs that I am capable of doing such as changing oil/filters/plugs/pads/fluids, basically anything that didn't involve cracking the engine open or putting a tyre on a wheel, I did myself. Previously I have only owned motorbikes, and a clapped out old peugot 309 (e reg, so that was older than me), so things were fairly simple.

I was reading in another thread that cars with a high mileage would benefit from regular servicing. Mine is approaching 130,000 miles, and is on the variable plan. Mine hasnt been serviced for just over a year now, but I have only done 10,000 miles in that time and the onboard computer hasn't grumbled at me to do it, so I am assuming it doesn't need to be done yet? Should I get it serviced anyway?

I've found the manual for the MK1, would this be worth getting - or have things changed a lot? For one of my bikes I got the MK1 version of their manual and some of it was relevant even though the bike was the MK2.

Or does anyone know of a better book/service manual for the MK2 octavia?

Waste of money. You'd be better off downloading elsawin and maybe buying a Mk5 Golf Haynes manual.

Blimey, these mechanics start young.

whoops, got the model numbers mixed up. It was a 309 (e reg). this thing... (not my old one, just a photo from google)

Not bad for £150, it was lots of fun to drive cos I didn't give a damn. Parking in tesco wasn't a problem, just drive into the trolley in the space to knock it out of the way. Dragged it down a few walls too. The brakes were awful, which made things interesting. Though it did guzzle petrol and eventually failed its MOT so I just got rid of it.
