new chip causes misfire

Featured Replies

Hi, I recently connect a chip to my car to increase the power. It works briliantly except for a promblem: my car misfires sometimes. It usually happened at 4th gear and above when the revs reach around 2000. For a split of second I feel the engine loses its power and it's going to stall, then the power comes back again. I actually don't know if it is called misfire. The whole feeling is like someone suddenly drags you when you are running and then let you go. when I take off the chip, this problem never happens. My question is: will misfire damage my engine? In such case, I have to take off the chip, I don't want to damage my car for the sake of the power. Or is there any cue to it? By the way, my car is a 2005 1.9tdi octavia .

Happy New Year everyone! :)

IMO opinion take it off, bin it, and get a remap from a reputable tuner. Alot of these cpo called chips are basically resistors that fool the engine into thinking its woking harder. waste of money. a remap is the better way to look after your car

Did the "chip" come from ebay claiming +20bhp by any chance?

possible because the chip is a load of rubbish and is actually causing you car all sorts of problems i works by overfueling the car and not reading certain signals to bypass faults

you best bet is take it off NOW as it will be damaging your engine..

the only way is remap by a

decent company

BUY NICE OR PAY TWICE

Im interested in how much was paid, do you have any links of where it was purchased so we can have a look please

personally id take that off flog it on fleabay and look nto getting a remap. remaps are pretty good value on the 1.9TDIs circa £300 for a good amount more safte power.

happily inform everybody that the problem has been solved. I sent an email to that company about it and fair play to them, they replied within a few minutes. I opened the chipbox and found a jumper bar sitting in the middle of 7 pins. I was told to move the bar to the left. after I reconnected the chip, hey presto, the problem's gone! However I feel much less extra power. I presume that the power output in the chip depends on the location of the jumper bar. I move the bar to the left means reduce the power output. My car's misfire was just because it couldn't take that much power output.

are you no listeing to what people are saying this mod will only feck your engine it is a resistor style chip and just causes the car to over fuel to get more power and get around any faults codes

there is only one way to gain extra power and thats from a remap that does thing properly.

i can assure you this will damage your engine and turbo for sure

another person that quiet clearly hasnt got a clue and doesnt listen to people that know what there talking about ..........

All they do is trick the car into thinking it needs to run more power. thats it,

With a remap, so many more things get adjusted, from boost, timing, fueling and on and on etc. id 100% reccomend taking that off the car, even if it seems like its cured, id sell that and get a reputable remap,

it'll be much cheaper than replacing your turbo
