Help me buy a new Scout !

Featured Replies

Hi all. Thinking about changing my 1.9 Elegance Estate for a Scout 1.8.

Looking at drivethedeal I can get one with :

4 spoke multifunction steering wheel with audio control + maxidot

Bi-Xenon headlights with adaptive front light system

Curtain airbags

Full size steel spare wheel

Heated front seats

Variable boot floor

for £16,966

The Skoda price with the above spec is also only a couple of hundred quid more less the VAT deal on at the moment.

Basically is their anything I should know about the 1.8 ? It would be nice to have the diesel but it's out of our price range.

What car quote the following prices for our Elegance with 14800 miles. Are these realistic prices ?

Our car value

Dealer £11,300

Private £10,795

Part exchange £9,620

Trade £9,250

Cost new £16,635

Our car spec is :

The current full spec is

Fllamenco Red Metallic with Onyx Cloth Trim

Xenon Headlights

Curtain Airbags

Maxi-Dot display

Light Assist

Front Mudflaps, Carpet Mats, Rubber Boot Mat, Door Sill Covers,

Exhaust Pipe End Half Pack Supagard ( interior & exterior )

Cheers !

I assumed yours was a 56 plate, Glasses (most reliable prices imho) say:

Skoda Octavia Elegance

1.9TD Diesel 5-door Estate

5 Speed Manual Front Wheel Drive

Year: 2006 56

Mileage: 18,000

The 1.8 is a lovely engine, you won't be disappointed.

I am finding the 1.8 a fine engine for the Scout.

Can't help other than that though.

Hi guys. Ours is a 57 plate.

Hi guys. Ours is a 57 plate.

well I don't have a scout but did buy a petrol 4x4 having started at dtd looking at a scout and ended up at the local stealers- this has the standard wheels and better tyres from a pot hole point of view, more comfy- the handling is mutch better than I anticipated and the traction is superb, the suspension is approx 15mm? lower than the scout but what else you get, I can do without for a thousand quid more. The other thing that put me off was the price of the silly size (17") tyres- the engine is good and just need to get it loosened up -warms up much quicker than my diesels which I'd forgotten, the only downside is the mpg but after a SEAT Ibiza what can you expect I understand the suspension on these two is also beefed up pehaps someone can confirm or otherwise just need lots more snow :-) cheers Nic

Nick_H,

If you want a diesel and the extra cost of purchase is putting you off, why not include the running costs over the time period. If your doing a reasonable milage, it should soon pay for its self. You could also take a loan out over a slightly longer period. The thing is fuel prices are only going to escalate, the extra milage that you can do with the diesel will make even more sense while a petrol motor might be forced to stay on the path instead of being out an about.

Cheers Anthony. Thing is we purchased this 1.9 with the intention of keeping it a long time ! :-) Hence the diesel. We only do around 7000 miles a year so really fuel consumption's not an issue.

You'd probably have to do around 25000m a year to make the Tdi a financially better option.

Hi guys. Ours is a 57 plate.

If you'd posted 3 months ago, I probably would have bought it from you. I looked everywhere for a good 2-3 year old with low mileage and ended up buying new as I could only find high mileage ex-lease cars.

Well thats good to know Phil :-) Hopefully it will mean I'll not have any trouble moving mine if we decide to change. It's pretty much mint....

Mrs pulls plug.

So ... Mrs decided she wants Scout. I spend some hours getting worked up about it and doing research. Mailing dealers etc.

The suddenly it's not such a good idea ....

FFS ....

Sorry to hear that as I was just about to post about how much my OH loves our diesel scout - especially in the atrocious weather we've been having ( well, are having as it has been snowing on and off all day). I have been very pleased with our purchase so far and would recommend a scout to anyone. We were out in hilly Northumberland last night and I had to help push a BMW Estate through the snow just so there was a gap so that my Scout could breeze past with no trouble at all.

I would second the recommendation of a Scout, 12 months in on mine and it has been fantastic. The 2.0 Tdi 140 engine is great, my wife now wants a Yeti to match!

You'd probably have to do around 25000m a year to make the Tdi a financially better option.

Why? you get at least 12 mpg more to the gallon with a Diesel Scout, you will get the resale value back if and when you sell on, . Personaly I wouldent have a Petrol now what with the VAT increases imminent aswell.

I have to snatch the keys to my Scout away from the missus.... she loves it.

Ok Ok why dont you all just rub it in ? ;-)

Mine even preferred the Scout over a RAV4. It was the test drive that swung it.
