abs sensor

Featured Replies

I've tried searching already so here I go...

I have an intermitent fault with my abs and traction lights coming on, recently my car has been plugged into vag.com and it came back with a faulty abs sensor on the o/s/f wheel.

I was advised to give it a clean but work and weather has put a stop to it.

Before I have a go tomorrow, is the sensor itself behind the brake disc? Also, is it worth me buying a new sensor first in case mine gets broken?

Any advice appreciated, cheers.

Not sure on the price of a new sensor for an Octy, but my mates Primera (P reg, iirc) was £130 for a proper nissan part, and about £20 cheaper from Eurocar parts. Got to be worth having a look and seeing if you can clean it up first....

give the pole wheel a clean too, thats the bit on the driveshaft with the teeth that the sensor points at. i know on a cosworth the sensor goes through a hole in the hub carrier and is held in by a bolt, thats behind the brake disc. probably not the same but hope this helps

£55 for the abs sensor

You'll end up destroying the sensor to remove it and you'll be amazed at how much copper wire there is in them.

In that case I'll get a replacement sensor sorted first, cheers.

Easiest to get the brake disc off and once you've loosened up the bolt holding the sensor on the back of the hub, push it through from the outside, they are a bu**er to get off by undoing the bolt and trying to pull them through from the inside as they get well and truly stuck to the hub. And as the others said, get a new one as the old one will get wrecked in the process of getting it out.

Thanks for the replies.

My abs light seems to have stayed off the last three days so I'm not sure if it was some dirt or something interfering with the sensor but I'm in no rush to do much with it until the weather is better.
