For All You VRS Tuners

Featured Replies

As some of you may know, I am into Morris Minors, as well as having a Fabia VRS. Below is just a taster of the things one of our members on the Minor Forum does with Morris Minors.

The guy does this for a living, so the work is all professional. The Minor in the picture, once finished, will be good for 500BHP

The work includes 5 link rear end, coilover front suspension, and has taken 700 Hours work so far B) It should be at Crail, possibly this year, and should do some very decent 1/4 mile times.

Thats Awesome!

That looks awesome. I love seeing things that are different. Do you have the URL to the build thread?

When you see the quality of the work this guy does, it really makes you realise, just how much effort and testing goes into proper tuning. Cars get dipped in acid to remove all the old paint, underseal etc. They then get dipped, zinc coated, before welding, spraying etc. I would dearly love to have my Traveller done by this guy, but we are talking silly money.

The car in the picture will have cost £60000 when it's finished. Purely because it's a works project mind you. JLH have done tuned Minors for £7000, and for that my Traveller would be good for 200BHP and get a five speed gearbox.

Seeing work like this makes me laugh even more when I see a chaved up mum mobile

Not a total build thread, but a sort of taster thread that Jonothan is doing on our alternative Minor Forum. Wasn't sure if it was allowed to link to another forum from here. Here's the link

Note to Mods, please remove link if this is not allowed.

Thanks, Going to have a look now

Tell you what see if I had £60k in my pocket...

I'd just buy an M5

That is truly amazing, Cant believe how low he has got that engine, it makes the little work i've done on a friends mk1 cortina look very simple and untidy ( I enjoed it though)

Love the red traveller

to me thats what a supertuned car should be, looks good but doesn't look like it had 000's spent on it

Ah now, you see, no adventure toil and sweat involved in that approach. Believe me, that Minor would eat an M5 for breakfast and come back for seconds. When it gets the 500BHP motor dropped back in, it is going to be an absolute monster. For these guys that are real engineers (and they are getting thin on the ground) it's all about the passion of making something with your own hands.

Even Tiff was impressed with the Traveller that has been tuned. B)

Absolutely, that's how I would love my Traveller to be. A real sleeper car. Current speedo is a calendar  .

That looks insane! Wonder what it handles like with that power :)

How much is the insurance premium?

Superb! Love the work and the effort!

There are more imortant things in life than fuel economy and insurance premiums :notme:

That looks stunning , bet it goes well too , knocks my idea of a Minor tuning job (1275 based cooper engine , front discs , lowered suspension and a set of Minilites) into a cocked hat! Mind you , my idea wouldnt cost £60 grand! :o

Insurance will probably be group 20+, although it will likely be on a special classic traders policy with limited mileage.

Handling will be excellent. This is an area where the builder is really an expert. Handling and stopping power comes first, power chosen to be as safe as possible.

Nearly everything on the cars are bespoke design. Even the ECU for engine management is custom made. I have seen Minors with big engines, that look inherently unsafe, with some really dodgy engineering involved.

In full racing spec, that car will beat an Audi RS8 in a 1/4 mile drag. Not bad for a Morris Minor.

Don't be put off mate. A well tuned 1275 Minor is a pretty nippy motor. Just follow Mr Vizzards A series tuning book, and you will end up with surprising performance. Heck, other traffic frequently slows my progress down, and that's with a simple 1098 lump from ESM. A 1275 with Ford 5 speed gearbox mod, really goes, and cruises nicely as well. B)

That is pretty mad! Bet it goes like stink!

Would love another car like that

That's ridiculous and mad, in the best possible way B)

Hopefully will see this car at Crail this year. Would love to see it going against an M5 and blowing it off the track as i hate BMW's with a passion.

I had a 1275 Ital engined Moggy and Jonathon did some of my suspension mods, while I was at his place he was just starting a mid engined traveller using a MGF engine /g/box configuration.

I sold my car to a guy who also had a traveller into which he was tranplanting a Toyota mr2 running gear.I've also helped to build a Rover V8 ford 100e gasser style ,and a Lotus twin cam powered Ford Corsair with a Jag rear end ,car was so low the exhaust ran through the modified trans tunnel. If you want to see some mad moggies ,have a look at the Beardmores Bros web site.

I would like to see some twin cam mini's .....

7.2 litre mini?

:D

Foir a second MoggyTech i thought that was your's :D & you had been stealth fully luring us into the "My Moggy is standard" train of thought ......

One thing i will say, Is that for a true drivers performance/Muscle car, You cannot beat Pure grunt & performance through simplicity..

Few gauges for monitoring purpose, Oil Pressure, Coolant, Oil temp Etc No Ecu's, No fandangled Sensors, Lots of displacement & induction roar to die for through a set of Dellorto/Webber 45's :D..

On another Note, How would a Modern Mechanic diagnose/Fix the above machine !!?? No Obd2 port to plug in, No codes, Just raw mechanical Knowledge & a Keen Ear....

Dean

Hmmm - very nice, but don't you think this isn't really related to fabia 1 but more applicable to "general car chat" ? :)
