Need vRS modding help / suggestions please!

Featured Replies

OK - I pick my 08 vRS PD up in 2 days and am now thinking about what I want to do to it.

As far as I can tell, it is totally standard so am looking to do the following - if it is recommended or anyone has any views on them.

1) Interior Footwell Lighting

2) Boot LED Lighting

3) Sidelight LED's

4) Body-colour chrome on front

5) Remove Octavia badge and replace with new vRS badge

Things I do need help with:

Remap - dont wanna go too far on this as I want the engine and clutch to be able to take it with no problems

Exhaust - no idea here!

Brakes - like the idea of something bigger here!

Are there any obvious ones I am missing here?

Cheers,

Andy

MODDING ALERT: For Gods sake be selective about Milotec stuff. Most of it looks ****e IMHO.

  1. Colour code your exisiting grill
  2. Please leave the original badge on it. Don't be ashamed to drive a Skoda and replacements look seriously naff, again IMHO.
  3. Interior courtesy LED's are just doing something for the hell of it and unless you actually >need< some additional light levels or have a rabid desire to have bright white lights inside your car then why spend the money?! Personally I had them in a previous car and took them out because I found the stark white light made me squint like a mole after a long run in the dark.
  4. Footwell lighting - yep I'm doing it soon but keep it subtle - low light level - perhaps use single 12V led's - 1 for each footwell. They are easy to mount and therefore conceal, run cool and offer probably just the right amount of light for the job.
  5. "daytime" led running lights - chav chav chav. Generally fine if they are factory fit - the facelift ones look OK but next time you see an Audi A3 with them, stop and think how odd the thing looks.
  6. LED sidelights - I'm undecided. I've had a pair of Canbus bulbs sitting at home for months and just can't bring myself to fit them as they offer less illumination than the standard W5 bulbs and it seems every chav in their old fake M3's has already fitted them.
  7. Boot LED lighting - easy one - simply replace bulbs however see point 3 above although this might be a case for improved levels of light as the bloody boot is so big its like Obama's cave! If you want more light add a couple of 12" LED strips and wire them off the backs of the existing lights.

SO much "modding" these days sticks out like a sore thumb and just makes a car look chavvy; "light brows", Lexus lights, black lights and of course LED running lights ;-)

Be subtle Obi Wan :-)

Thanks for the links and advice - I actually like the black lights hehe!! Had considered those after seeing them - as my car is black, might look kinda cool, but will sleep on it :D

Colour coded grille is an excellent mod on any car, but looks especially good on the black cars.

Get the map sorted out first though :)

Who is good within about 100miles of say Warrington? (north west)

And what map is best so I don't fry the car :D?

Give Ben@Sharkperformance a call or pm about the STS system ,then no need to travel anywhere ,and works real well.

Stretton Fox - Why do I know this place :D I assume it's in Stretton and not just a clever name? ;)

What happens at the meets? Many turn up?

Feel free to give us a call to discuss your requirements.

Just in case you didnt know, most LED's are still not road legal, and there are many alternatives.

If you take a look here, you can see a wide range of the different bulbs avaiable: car bulbs

1-remap-

Shark-perfomance is a good option and as fikes says, no need to travelif you get the STS with it as well. plus with the STS you can fuly immobilise your car(so that not even the key will start it), read fault codes(save a lot of money for dealer diagnostics), and you can toggle between your standard map or the tweaked one.

2-brakes

i reckon one of the easiest/cheapest and most effective things you can do to your brakes is replace the Pads. a goodset of pads will make a massive difference, dont worry about grooved discs, there will be negligable perfomance gain for getting them.

if how ever you are intersted in a big brake kit, but dont want to spend out 1500-2500 pounds on one there are loads of alternatives.

£1000 will get you audi R8 calipers on S3 345mm dscs(very heavy though)

£750-1000 will get you a set of second hand but reconditioned 4 pot 997 calipers with merc 352 mm discs (shark_90 is running these., ive ad a go in them and they are bloody good.)

ive just got a set of these for £750- Audi B5 RS4 360x32 semi floating two piece discs, Twin pot calipers, custom carriers, braided hoses. everything except the discs came to £400, the discs are £350 new from audi. (the discs although thicker and bigger are still lighter than the S3 345mm discs as well)

3-exhaust

you have a diesle so youcan install a decat without failing an MOT, so i reckon get a decat downpipe mated to your dtandard cat back and get a stage 2 map from ben @ sharkperformance

i know a guy on the gti forum who can sort all brake kits like that out. that who me and shak_90 have got ours from as well as many others.

as for "are you missing anything from the list" my answer is yes, . anti roll bars IMO are the best mod for these cars. they roll to much in corners
