Problem with brakes

Featured Replies

Hi

Anyone come across this brake problem before:

On starting, after car has been stood outside overnight, the brakes appear to have no servo assistance. After 3 or 4 applications they work absolutely fine and carry on okay for the rest of the journey.

Was a bit worrying the first time as I tried to stop and nearly ran Mrs TG over :o

TIA

Sorry - it's a VRS SE

Car Model? Petrol? Diesel?

Most likely just surface rust on discs. Car details would help though.

I've had this on the Roomy recently, I think it may be ice forming on the discs overnight after a little condensation.... a few applications heats up the discs and melts the ice. But then again, I might be wrong!

When you say, 'no servo'. does the pedal feel hard and not go down far? If so it's really no servo, if it goes down the the problem is at the brake end.

Easy to test the servo. Engine off, pump brake pedal till it goes hard (the brake pedal  ). Keep pressure on the pedal, and start engine, pedal should sink as servo kicks in. As it's a diesel, the pedal will sink almost to the floor with firm pressure.

Could be sticky valve in the servo
