Auxillary electric water pump failure

Featured Replies

I have noticed that after a drive i hear this whinning noise coming from the engine bay. It's coming from the electric water pump and it's not circulating the water just making a sick whinning noise, obviously it's siezed for some reason. Is this important, will it cause damage to the turbo if it's not working by overheating? The car is under warranty but showing no fault codes...

Say whaat about an electric water pump.

I didn't realise the octy came with them, or is this just on the TFSI engine?

How do you know its not circulating the water?

The objective is to stop the oil cooking in the turbo - so it IS an important component. No fault codes will show up if it fails, but it should be covered by warranty.

On some of the TFSI engines the coolant water will continue to circulate after the engine is turned off in order to cool the turbo. If this is what you're hearing then there isn't a problem. If the sound is new and given it's winter, so less cooling needed in the first place it's worth investigating...

Yeah the 2.0 TFSI comes with one. It started making weird noises, it's definately not circulating because you could feel the coolant moving through the pipes if you touched them and now i can't.
