VRS Seatbelts

I have owned our late 2003 VRS since new, over the last year both front seatbelts have become increasingly sluggish to rewind, has anyone else suffered and overcome this problem?

I'm having exactly the same problems with my late 2005 VRS and it's a little annoying!! Would be good to know if there's a simple fix for this!?

Simple fix should be to pull them all the way out, and run a damp cloth or something along them to clean all the dirt and stuff off. Should make them less sluggish.

I have had this problem to. I love my little VRS but for god sake this is what you should experiance in an 15 year old car not a 5 year old car ;(.

I thought maybe the only fix is a new seat belt!

Could be worth someone taking it apart to see what the problem is and doing a guide.

Cheers,

Gaz

I had this with mine which eventually resulted in the front passanger belt not going back in at all.

I had to replace the whole seatbelt unit which with my local mechanic cost £144 Inc VAT.

Hopefully it won't come to this with yours though,

Kirk

I have the same problem :( Havent got round to pulling out the belt & cleaning it, But I have heard that it works in some cases.

In my last car (97polo) the problem was so bad I ordered a new (scrappage) belt & tensioner for £37 & fitted it myself, it was a fairly simple job just 1 bolt after pulling out a lot of interior panels.

hope this helps ;)

edit: this problem will show up as a *note* on an MOT

Belts will just need a good clean. Maplin foam cleaner works very well. You will be amazed at the dirt that comes out of the belt weave.
