Is my car fitted with a Dual Mass Flywheel?

Featured Replies

The car I'm viewing at the weekend is a '51 plate early '02 1.9 TDi 110bhp Elegance Saloon.

Does anyone know if it'll be fitted with a DMF?

Hi!

Yes, 110bhp it's probably ASV engine. Anyway, thay all DMF. There is two different types LUK cost £483,72 and it's flywheel on it's own. Other type it's SACHS £399,81 inc VAT and this is compleette unit (witch clutch).

The other thing is, you don't know which type is fitted to your car till you strip it down (physical inspection of old part necessary).

You can also buy aftermarket solid flywheel kit witch clutch for about £150 + Vodka & Tonic :giggle:

I didn't have any problems with my 110 TDI and it didn't drive like it had a DMF on an 03 plate, but I can't really give a clear answer on that.

Thanks guys!

Its a cheap car and will be used for towing. 113k on the clock so I'm expecting it to need a cambelt service soon etc... I'll be checking history carefully!

The trailer is fairly heavy (sports car transporter) and I'm considering a soft remap/chip to help it along a bit (my dad has a chip that may fit, from a 1.9 TDi Audi A3 105bhp). I didn't realise they all had DMF's, I think G60 is the way to go if my clutch goes!

I'm not scared to get my hands dirty so I'll see how it goes and get it as cheap as poss!

is there a code on the lable in the h/book to indicate dmf? mine is the 90hp tdi03. Guess that has a standard type in it.

I asked the same question of Skoda not so long ago and i was told if it was an early car, mines a 2001 TDI 110 then it probably didnt!

He sauid it would only be the later cars that had it, which lent me to believe it would be the 130PD that has it!

From all the research I've been doing recently I'd say yes it's got a DMF.

Couple of reasonable SMF conversion kits about. Personally I'm thinking of going for a Valeo kit at £218 (http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Skoda_Octavia_1.9_2002/p/Car-Parts/Transmission/Clutch-and-Associated-Parts/Solid-Flywheel-Conversions), or making up my own kit for similar money by buying a LUK VR6 clutch kit from GSF, and a G60 flywheel and all bolts from VW.

Or there is the ECS Stage 1 kit, which is just a normal VR6 clutch kit, but with 2 options on a lightened flywheel (14lbs or 20.5lbs, standard G60 is 22lbs, standard DMF is 28lbs). JBS also do a kit, but it's just a normal VR6 clutch kit and OE G60 flywheel, so not much point if you can be bothered to source the bits yourself.

Skoda shockingly quote 5 hours at £71.95+vat per hour for this job (£422.73 total)!! Awesome quote 4 hours at £55+vat per hour. JBS quote 4 hours at £50+vat per hour. Having read through a few how-to's on this job, I don't think I want to try it myself!

Let us know how you get on if you decide to go DIY.
