Slxi turbo help please!

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Last week when driving home from work my car starting spluttering along like a tractor, losing power etc. One second its ok the next not. While driving if i put the clutch in and rev'ed it there was no problem and it was perfect, then when i engaged the clutch it was back to being a tractor again. Then for the last few days it was fine but today even on idle it was awful again, and the exhaust had a horrible fuel smell, so i called the rac out. The chap plugged the computer in and there was a mass air sensor code but as i had no engine light on he said its probably an old code not cleared. No other fault came up. So he checked all the coil packs and plugs, changing them around etc and he said the coil packs were ok but there was a misfire on number 3. He could do nothing more and advised going to a garage but before i do that i wondered if anyone of you good folk could help? Vehicle is a 2000 W, Slxi Turbo.

Thanks

did he actually check or change the sparkplugs? as if the coilpacks have been moved but cylinder three is still misfiring it could be plugs. If he did check the plugs the next place to check is the wiring loom to the coilpacks. These are know to get brittle and crack, causing them to "ground" to the engine thus causing missfires. Easy to fix with a bit if time and some electrical tape. HTH

Thanks very much for taking the time to reply. He did indeed take the plugs out but had no replacements on the van so cleaned them up. I will have a look at the wiring today. Thanks again.
