Black Magic Pearl Effect - The right choice?

Featured Replies

Hi all

I'm new to Briskoda but have been reading your posts on the Yeti with interest. I have a 2.0 TDI 110 SE on order due March 2010 and took the plunge for one in black magic. I've included floor mats, sliver roof rails, 4-spoke bluetooth steering wheel, esp and variable boot floor as optional extra's. No plans to go off road so kept the cost down with the 2wd version only.

Be interested to hear from current Yeti owners on their views regarding my extra's list and if you think I've missed out on anything! Actually my biggest concern is colour choice, as some pictures of the Yeti in black look rather boring, while others I really like. Thought hard about Muscovado but wondered if this might date in a few years. In the end I have come across this video which I actually think shows the black, with the 17 inch Dolomite's, to look rather good. The main action runs from 4.14 mins so you may want to skip through the first two thirds:

Any honest view's much appreciated. If anyone else has taken delivery of a Yeti in black magic it would be great to see some pics posted please.

p.s. regarding the variable boot floor, I'm assuming it can be removed for those weekend trips away when you need to maximise the boot space?

Looks imposing and stylish in black, and I think your silver roof rails along with the larger alloys will set off the color nicely

Colour is all down to personal taste of course but I'd never buy black again simply due to the fact the car almost always looks filthy and uncared for. When its freshly cleaned and polished though it looks excellent. :)

Word of warning though from black magic Fabia owner!

Your car will only ever be clean for the 5mins after you've cleaned it! Don't get me wrong It'll look fantastic but it won't say clean long!

Be careful where you park also especially if theres any dirt on it, Anybody brushing against the car will leave marks on the paint! And it shows up every blemish/mark/imperfection.

I always wanted a black car, Now I've had one I'd never have another!

They still look awesome when they're cleaned and polished!

When you take delivery think about getting it professionally valeted with many coats of wax to protect the finish.

Don't bother with the Diamondbrite the dealer offers!

But most of all enjoy you car when it arrives, I've seen a few Snow Monsters on the road, And I would seriously consider one!

Ordered mine in cappuccino beige :) Already driving a Roomster in that colour and it is great! Especially on dirty rain and dust, it's hardly showing any effect in the color.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Your spec sounds good to me and yes the variable floor is easy to remove (see on-line handbook My link).

Colour choice is a personal thing and with the wait for delivery the old 'have I got it right' can creep in. I can understand your concerns regard black as it does blend in some of the Yeti's detailing but the black magic is a smart colour and you have added silver rails which will add contrast with the Dolomites. You might also consider the silver wing mirror covers (see accessories brochure) to enhance the effect.

So I wouldn't worry just look forward to receiving your excellent Monster in March.

TP

Black is a great colour. Just take time/care cleaning it to avoid swirl marks and invest in some good quality wax to repel the dust. That clip is also very good, some nice shots of both the interior and exterior, the Yeti looks aggressive from the front in black (and great in the snow) and it's a colour that should never go out of fashion.

I'll look up your link for the variable floor and try to relax about colour choice. It does appear from various posts that UK Yeti order's may be picking up since the September launch. I wonder if the 3,000 unit expectation from Skoda for annual UK sales will be about right or somewhat conserative.

Thanks. Any recommendation for a good quality wax to repel dust on black would be most welcome? I thought the clip was good also with the snow in the background.

I totally agree what others have said - colour is very much a personal 'beauty in the eye of the beholder' thing. I too had a Black Magic Fabia vRS and it's true what others have said but when they're clean they look, well, magic...

One of my lot at work has a Clio V6 in metallic black and she's seriously into the detailing thing so it is absolutely immaculate, no swirls in the paint, looks stunning. I think some of the 'silver' accessories will add to the all black manace of your Yeti.

I went through the 'what have I done' after ordering Candy White many times and never really relaxed about it until I actually saw it in the fur. I shouldn't have worried, it looks great - much better than ALL of the other colours... :giggle:

How about Park Assist 'instead' of ESP. It's only a bit more (£70 I think in the new brochure) and you get front sensors and exactly the same ESP thrown in?

Thanks for the suggestion. Anyone got park assist and happy to let the car do the parking?

Colour is a personal choice and I would never chose a black colour. Black is absolutely the worst colour to have in the sunshine. It makes the car unbearably hot and puts the air-conditioning under maximum strain and takes an age to get things back at a more acceptable temperature. The same cud be sad for any dark colour to a leaser extent. White is the best in the sun and silver is very good also as are most light colours depending. I shall be choosing the Musk Brown its a little like Khaki and blends into the countryside like camouflage and that is what I prefer. It does not look to bad either but that is not why I would choose it, its for practical reasons.

Black and white both have problems with being kept clean for one reason or an other, silver cars do not show up the dirt nearly so much.

I think that the Yeti looks very smart in black but the lighter metallics do seem to show the lines a little better to my eyes. The Yeti is a fairly boxy car (in the nicest possible sense) and black does seem to exacerbate that effect making it appear a little hearse like. Having said that, I have ordered a bright red Yeti and am ready for all of the post van / fire engine comments once I have it!

People will make jokes about every colour though and so go with what you like because the Yeti seems to look good in every colour and so you are unlikely to be disappointed.

I spoke to my Clio V6 detailing guru at work today and apparently there isn't anything special out there to repel dirt or dust - just need to clean it a lot!

I find with the white that from anything more than a few feet away it actually looks clean - the white shines through. It's not been washed for 8 days thanks to the weather and a foot of snow at the hangar where the hose pipe is. :S
