Hi Bandit1988

Changing spark plugs is a DIY job but can be intimidating. I would sugest getting hold of a Hynes manual (Yes I know there ain't one for the MkII Octavia).

However, there are other questions you need to answer first:-

Is the car still under warranty?

What is the service interval for spark plugs. - they might be good up to 40.000 miles IIRC

Searching for "Change Spark Plugs" on YouTube I found this guide from Expert Village - probably better than just text:

yea cars still under warranty, and they need changing every 60k miles as i asked the technicians when got car serviced recently, it is very high maileage and i have only put 30k on it but i do a lot of high speed driving and messing around and leave the car when racing in the high rpm range so doubt very much they ll do the manufatures spec 60k

Do you have the correct spark plug socket and socket wrench? I'd avoid the 'all-in-one' sparkplug wrench as they tend to have too much 'give' and can also snap the top off the plug, not too bad if it's just the porcelain insulator, not good if it shears below the hex! I know, I've done both. I usually use a wooden skewer, cloth and a vacuum cleaner to get muck from around the plug, and prevent it dropping inside the cylinder. With electronic ignition, spark plugs are rarely a problem if everything else is ok. The much higher voltages and lower currents make them last longer.

Thanks for the extra bit of info. Yea have the proper spark plug spanner and all that. From what I can tell the spark plugs are underneath the air filter box. So assuming goin to have to remove that

Spark plugs tend to loosen suddenly, compared to unscrewing most other things on a car, so watch your knuckles and anything close to your 'levering' hand, to the extent of wrapping a rag over them. Best to use the other hand to keep the socket 'on axis' with the plug (unless you have a sliding bar wrench and can use both hands levering).
