Glad I went for the spare wheel option !

Featured Replies

Driving into work this morning and low tyre pressure warning light came on in my new vRS hatch. Having owned a Renault Laguna in the past I didn't believe it. Big mistake ! Went to leave work tonight and tyre looked flat (hard to tell in the gloom and with low profile tyres) - tried reversing and could instantly tell it was flat. Went to fit my full-size spare and noticed it's got warning stickers all over it saying must not exceed 50mph ! Had an interesting drive home on the M5 at 50-60mph !

Found a larger nail in the tread so hoping it can be plugged, otherwise I'll have to replace my 700mile tyre ! Now paranoid that some idiot will damage my freshly painted black wheels during the repair !

In case I need to know where is the cheapest place to buy tyres on the internet ?

Hopefully though you can get it fixed. :)

Whats the point of a full size spare limited to 50mph? Is this not a proper tyre or something? Normally the speed restriction applies to space savers.

it is a full size spare, not a spacesaver but its on a 16" wheel. The overall diameter of the wheel is exactly the same, personally I would have driven at the same speed as before rather than risk an accident.

If you ignore that speed limit warning on the spare wheel and then have a accident, are you leaving the door open for the insurance company to just walk away?

I used tyre shopper uk http://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk . I ordered on line then went to National tyres who supplied and fitted the tyres. Ordering first via Tyreshopper meant a big saving over National Tyres normal price.

My full-size spare doesn't and never had any warning stickers.

The stickers do look poorly adhered to the wheel and may easily fall off....

I'm sure I've read on here that the limit on the wheel is more to do with Skoda not trusting the tyre fitting skills of the general public rather than any speed restriction on the wheel or tyre construction.

Your car will have assymetric tyres/wheels if the spare is fitted and I think it is entirely reasonable to restrict the speed under those circumstances .If the same tyres/wheels were fitted across the axle then normal speeds should apply.

Got my tyre repaired today - dead lucky as if the damage had been 2mm nearer the side wall the tyre would have been scrap. Drove away from the tyre fitters but couldn't initially get the low tyre pressure warning light to go out (pressing the 'set' button) - found you have to keep it depressed for a few seconds to cancel - I was initially paranoid I had another puncture !!
