DSG fuel consumption?

Featured Replies

In that iffen I buy one ( a diesel) is the fuel consumption REALLY so much poorer than the manual equiv.

Cos If I recall the brochure says it is

I fancy one (and the wife hates manuals)

but we are both equally tight re expenditure ie on excess fuel consumption

Not much difference if DSG 6

Could even be better with DSG7

Hardly any difference as per latest brochure and is fine on my DSG 6 140 PD, Get one they are very good.

Ok

Thanks, my brochures are prob from early mid 2009

I was puzzled as I understood that DSG should have had the same ( or better even, due to optimum change points ) efficiency than a manual

cheers

My DSG is the first "automatic" I've owned, and I have to say it's absolutely fantastic, especially in stop/start town driving. Doesn't make open road driving too shabby either.

My only criticism, if anything, is the fact that it changes down too early for my liking when applying the brakes going downhill, but you can get around that easily by temporarily flicking it across to manual.

On a steady 43 mile drive home from work the other night it gave me 54.8mpg going by the trip computer

I have to agree for the most part. Though I would like to see the "sport" setting in the gearbox changed to something like "city" setting which would be something in between the current normal and sport mode. The normal mode tends to upshift too fast for city rush hour traffic. It's hard to make fast lane changes & generally react to fast paced situations with it. Otoh the sport setting keeps the revs too high up, I can't stand the diesel noise @3500rpm before it upshifts. So I tend to use the box in manual mode when driving in traffic.

As for the fuel economy, I get constantly around 51mpg and at best I've got 58 mpg. I'd say that's pretty decent for an auto box!

Well i found the brochure, and as I thought I recalled, for the 1.9 diesel....... cos I was in the notion of the DSG option

Without DSG = 57.6 mpg ( combined) & CO2 = 130

With DSG = 47.9 mpg (combined) & CO2 = 155

So 10 mpg difference = significent

I will get a fresh new updated brochure

PPS

Are the figs for CO2/ mpg released for the 2WD 2.0 diesel YETI yet, my brochure says TBC

And when is the YETI to get a diesel DSG option

Post June? per a comment to my query about the possible fitment of the 1.6 CR diesel I can only presume

Agree with most of the comments above. My Leon will do 40-50 mpg on a commute, which isn't far short of the lighter, less powerful, manual Fabia vRS I had before.

Very happy with the DSG 7 on the 1,8TSi to a point.

Great on dry/wet roads & in traffic!

Absolutely :swear: useless in the snow, it will spin frantically even in manual mode, so you'll want to buy some extra wheels & winter tyres to go with it.

8.. bloody times I got stuck with it, because the DSG box wouldn't allow me to go up into 2nd in manual mode, even though the speedo was registering between 25-40mph, whilst the rear wheels were stationary.

It needs to have a "Winter mode" where you have FULL MANUAL control of it! If they were to do that then it would be an absolute ACE!

Hi, do you have ESP on your car ? I specced it onto my elegance and I found the DSG to be faultless in the recent wintery conditions.

We have 55 plate Elegance 2.0 dsg, have now done 34800 miles , my log shows avarage of 42 mpg and 3500 miles of that were towing 3450 klg. On my runs to the M25 Hastings to Harlow i get between 60 and once 70 mpg read from the computer. Best auto i have ever had. As for the recent snow i found the manuel part in first became handy going down steep slopes, in auto it goes to fast even no foot on pedal.

Yep and it was still god damned useless. On or Off.

As to fuel consumption I haven't worked it fully out yet but I think it's around the 34 mark, which isn't bad.
