My first new new car

Featured Replies

I'm about to place an order for a vRS with the following spec - the first new car I've bought made to spec, everything else has been from stock.

SKODA OCTAVIA DIESEL HATCHBACK 2.0 TDI CR vRS 5dr DSG

Heated front seats

Space saver spare wheel

Maxidot

Bi Xenon headlights

3 spoke multifunction steering wheel

Auto dimming rear view mirror with light assistant

Floor mats

Front and rear parking sensors

Mobile device interface - iPod lead

Colour: Metallic - Anthracite grey

Trim: Cloth - Black

I plan on getting the Fiscon bluetooth installed in it as I don't want to lose my iPhone and do need hands free.

Is there anything worth knowing or ordering that I may not be aware of?

Yeah, for some bizarre reason you're going to order a diesel, change it to a 2.0 TSI. Otherwise, it'll be fine!

Poor misguided Babs.

I like my diesels - I'm part exing a 1.4PD TDI Polo for the vRS.

Not sure as to whether I keep the 84bhp smart for the weekends though :) Ton for ton the Diesel vRS and the smart have the same power!

You've made a good decision to have xenons but I'm afraid they're only low beam xenons!

The 3 spoke multifunction steering wheel is included with the DSG and the carpet mats are free with all the cars - unless you've ordered the rubber ones.

I produced the list from DTD but I'm going direct to Allams right now - those 3 were listed as options but at £0.

Not too worried about not having high beam Xenons as I rarely drive anywhere I can use high beam! :)

Very nice. Best choice going for diesel.

Diesel is a fail. It's the AIDs of car fuels.

Jealously is a cruel thing Babs... :giggle:

Jealous? Of a diesel? Yes I hate driving my petrol V6. I hate the instant power and torque. I hate the noise. Yes I am very jealous of the tractor-engined car....

I really feel sorry that you hate all these anoying things that petrol has to offer. I feel the same way

Maxidot is incuded too with the DSG :)

I hope you're right as thats not what it says in the brochure....

vRS’ 3 spoke leather sports steering wheel (multi-function controls for radio and paddle shift - DSG only)

It is included if you've ordered bluetooth though....

Bluetooth® and telephone function for multi-function steering wheel and Maxi-dot (DSG only)

Mind you, I have been known to be wrong before so feel free to correct me

YES!! Maxidot is included with DSG

Here is the reply from Skoda UK:

Dear Chris,

Thank you for your information request.

I can confirm that MAXI-DOT comes as standard with the DSG option on the Octavia vRS.

Once again, thank you for your request.

Confirmed, didn't spec it as I hadn't done my homework, later wished I had...and on the day of collection there it was :D

Did you notice how I was hedging my bets?

As I'd only looked in the Oct 2009 brochure I wondered if it had changed in the Jan 2010 one and no it hasn't.

It's a good job Briskodians know better than Skoda!

Right - ordered today so it'll go into the Skoda system tomorrow.

Big thanks to James at Allams for taking me out in a Diesel DSG VRs.

Absolutely stonking car - really nice kick in the pants acceleration. Going for Anthracite with all of the options I'd mentioned and taking the really nice 1.5% HP finance option.

Excited now :)

phew, i thought for a minute that this was gonna turn into another Diesel vs petrol thread.

:D

Why not get it from DtD? Must be somewhat cheaper?

Agree with the above, did you shop round. Hope you managed to get a good deal as Allams were way off for me when I ordered mine in August last year!

Yes DtD would have been cheaper but I have had really good service from Allams. Also DtD would probably have used either the closer Skoda dealer - who really didn't give two hoots when I called them to see about a test drive - or someone further away, Allams are close enough for me to use them regularly for servicing etc.

I'm happy with the price - it's about what I was expecting to pay and James and Beth at Allams have been great so far and customer service deserves recognition.

Oh lord no - I'll be doing slightly above the break even point for Diesel to be worthwhile financially and I like the sound diesels make and the kick in the pants acceleration.

Good for you

Now you just have to sit back and wait for the new car :)

But I want it now. Now, now now! :)

hehe, I know

I had to wait 14 weeks for mine, but at least the delivery times seem to be coming down a little atm so hopefully you should see it a little quicker

8 weeks at the moment!!
