Octavia suspension knock?

Featured Replies

Ive just put new parts on my pd about 6 mths ago, new shocks, drop links, anti roll bar bushes, basiclly everything apart from the track rod ends and the suspension arms which still look alright!

But ive got a knock at low speed bump and re bound and sometimes through the steering wheel!

Has anyone got any ideas?

Skoda say that they doubt it the track rod ends as they dont really do then and i dont think its the suspesion arms aunless anyone else knows better!

Has anone had this problem or can offer up any advice with what i could look at?

Just wanted to know what you guys thought before i rip the who car apart in a vain attempt to find something that is worn or loose!

How often to the inner steering rods go?

i know this wont help but bro inlaw had a leon cupra r (which i believe have the same running gear?) with exactly the same problem. he changed everything but could never stop the knocking so he sold it

A whole new bar!

How did that cure it?

Just wonder as nothing should happend to the bar itself!

It's probably the bushes on the ARB, I had this on mine, took ages to find where the noise was coming from, when the bushes are shot there is nothing to stop the ARB moving to the left or right, beware if it shuffles to the left as it will tap on the turbo ancillery area on the RHS.

Have the steering rack bushes been checked?

Top mounts, ball joints, rear wishbone bushes, track rod ends all spring to mind. I had a knocking caused by the rear wishbone bushes being shot, allowing the wishbone to knock on the subframe.

Guess you need to drop the wheels off and give it a thorough inspection. Or just change everything like I did!

ARB bushes is a good bet.

Also although you said you had Drop links replaced are they tight? Drop links make a very noticable clunk when the car goes over bumps. I have known some new drop links to be faulty or not tightend up to be the type of problem you have.

Does anyone know the whats involved in changing the steering rack bush?

Its a cheap one so i thought id change it as a matter of course providing it doesnt need pressing out and press fitting?

Can it be done at home?

Then i could rule that out !

yeah i also wouldnt mind knowing about the steering rack bush, as im planning on changing my rack at the beginning of feb and already have a poly bush ready to re-install

Steering rack bush is fairly easy to do, just one clamp that needs undoing onto of the subframe towards the left hand side of the car. New one slides on and then just replace the clamp over the top of it and bolt back down.

So do you need to disconnect any of the steering?

Like the track rods to get the bush on or is it split?

The bush has a split at the bottom so no need to disconnect anything other than it's own clamp.
