Brake Pad Life

Featured Replies

My 56 plate Octy II Ambiente DSG Diesel has done 38,000 miles from new on the same disc brake pads.

About how many miles can I expect from them?

I don't tear arse about and like nothing better than tootling along with my caravan holding up all the traffic. :D

My original disks and pads are on 91K miles and going strong. 2005(55) octy 2.0PD TDI 140.

Thanks for the quick reply. Looks like I can have a few more years trouble free motoring yet although the dreaded cam belt change is looming.

My Discs are now over 135.000 miles and last set of pads lasted over 50k miles... lots of highway, less than 10% city on a 12/2004 Octy 1.6 MPI.

Changed my rear pads once at 75k miles.

I have just replaced my front discs at 280,000kms, the pads normally last about 80,000kms. I don't think you can ask much more than that from a car.

25,000 fronts 35,000 rears, being a taxi it lives on them pads that is:'(

Ordinarily I'd suggest they will be about half worn at the front at any rate (it does of course depend on driving pattern and style), but as you have the DSG 'box and tow a caravan (more weight to slow down) even though you believe you drive gently, they might need changing sooner than you think (and are being led to believe by other posters).

Best to get the remaining pad thickness checked and then you can calculate how much were you have left.

I sold my 2.0TDI at about 75k , and that still had all the original disks and pads.

Over 75k on the original pads and plenty left (2.0 tdi dsg)

Wow. My VRS is on 30k and i was wondering if the dealer had been a bit lax at the service as they havent changed them or even suggested they're low. Now it seems there might be a reason and that i might be ok for a while yet!

Still gonna take a look myself though when i get a free moment...........

135.000 Km,s and still on the originals got about 3mm on front and 2.5 on back left with a 1mm loss on the disks, still seems fine for a while, the EGR just cost me 700 Euro to change though Grrrr

must say something about genuine pads!
