Octavia VRS 2.0Tfsi fuel economy

Featured Replies

Just got my Octavia and have ordered a K&N panel filter for it. However it is not plainly obvious how to access the air filter box, as it appears like the whole engine cover is integral with the air filter box? Is there a how to guide anywhere on here? I have searched but couldnt find one. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in anticipation

I had the same 'problem' recently and found a really good guide (will hunt for it now and edit my post if I find it!)... As you said, the whole engine cover is an integral air box housing. You need to remove the air intake (front right) and also the MAF sensor (back left) first, then give it a good tug. Apparently it's been known for people to crack the cover when removing, but I was fine. There are 4 domed-shaped rubber location points at the 4 corners of the engine cover, you need to pull bottom right - bottom left - top right - top left to remove it. A bit of grease on each of the nipples will help if you need to remove it again in future!

As for MPG, I've had 2 tanks of 27.7 (both on trip computer and calculated manually at the pump) and 26.0 (26.1 showing on the trip computer), but I do a lot of very short journeys where the car doesn't get up to temp :(

Motorway at 60mph (approx 56 on sat nav) on the speedo gave me 46mpg, 70 on the speedo (67 on sat nav) 40.5mpg and 74 on the speedo (70 on sat nav) was around 37.5mpg.

Hope you are enjoying the car as much as I am mine! (Only had it a bit longer than you)

Adam

Edit: Ta-daaa! Edit again: Swear filter... change **** for w a n k

You should get explicit instructions with photos with the filter; in the meantime you ought to be able to find them on K&N's website.

Good luck.

I am really enjoying my car. Even more now its been remapped. I was suprised as to the transformation of the engine from a simple remap. I keep toying with the idea of going stage 2, but there wouldnt be that much difference in performance for me to justify the cost. Though watch this space lol

I fitted the airfilter easily, as a quick phone call to Awesome Gti and I was away. Though I cant understand why K&N dont supply pictured instructions like they normally do?

Yeah, I heard they usually supply instructions... oh well, glad it's sorted now

I am interested in a remap as well, don't think I can justify a Stage 2 at all though! haha

Contact Ben at Shark Performance regarding a remap. I amongst a few others have bee very satisified with the results. I am placing my car on an independant rolling road on wednesday, to see what the results are? His rolling road is very accurate, as my 182 (180hp) clio put out 182 bhp at the fly wheel with a panel filter installed.

Hi all I am new to this,

Having last owned an Ibiza Cupra TDI economy was a major consideration when changing over to a more powerful petrol. Although on average I was getting between 35-40mpg on the Cupra (mainly caused I ragged it) I was interested to see the Octavia VRS results... well on a nice steady run up the M6 average speed of 55 mph over 80 miles I picked up a not to be sniffed at 42mpg. Throw in some windy/hilly mountain A-Roads over 50 miles and that dropped down to 37 mpg (28 mpg with no motorway involved) then came back via mainly A-roads/Country roads and then hit 35 mile of motorway where I opened her up on occassion (over a ton-110) and it dropped down to 33 mpg. Settled down for a 50 mile trek on the M1 and after nearly 500 mile the economy was a decent 36 mpg... So not too bad considering.

Just ragged it round the town a bit, calmed down for a few mile and it has pulled in 22mpg over 48 mile.. we shall see...
