Octavia VRS 2.0Tfsi fuel economy

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have been on here a while and am normally on the fabia section. I own a Fabia VRS and am looking into buying a Octavia VRS 2.0TFSI. I am after some information about roughly what average mpg people get and how many miles one full tank goes? Plus any helpful buying advice or things to look out for from anyone.

Thanks Matt

You should expect 30-35mpg - I get about 38mpg going into work on mainly motorway but 33mpg coming home (work that one out) - my car still only has about 800 miles on it so would expect to loosen up and reduce consumption over time. Plus it's been very cold so would be on choke longer.

I have a 2008 vRS Petrol Octavia. I rarely drive it hard. Only when I feel like it do I take it into the quiet countryside and have a play when time permits.

Average round town - 30-33mpg

Average on motorway - 35-40mpg

Best ever on motorway (cruising in 6th doing 50mph) - 46mpg!

Had the car 10 months now. Done 7500miles. My fuel computer (2) setting was reset upon driving away from the dealers to see what my overall mpg is. It currently stands at 33mpg. Thats a mixture of long/short journeys and a few drives out into the country putting the car through its paces. ;)

I also get worse fuel economy coming home. How weird. Perhaps its because we drive a bit quicker on the way back than on the way in. :giggle:

Depends on roads/journeys/weather etc.

Doing 30 minute journeys on windy and hilly Derbyshire roads on my daily commute, 30-32 mpg is achievable with a steady foot, and it's what I seem to be getting as an overall average.

On a long run down to Cornwall I averaged over 40 mpg.

If I give it some hammer on the back roads, then it drops to less than 20 mpg.

Thank you for all your replies. I have decided that I am going to take one for a test drive later in the week :)

any differences noted between tfsi and tsi?

..... but if you have a vRS TDI you will get circa 10mpg better than the TFSI. I get 40-42mpg driven briskly in mixed conditions and 45+ on an easy economical journey.

Being used to the Furby vRS's slug of torque, whilst you will be surprised at the torque offered by the TFSI you'll impressed with the TDI. Try one and see.

Up to 25 mpg in town and up to 34 on a long run.

I was just about to suggest test driving a CR or PD. I'd go for the CR though

The reason I went diesel was the MPG (amongst other things) but on a run, sat at 65-70 on the motorway, I can get 56mpg quite easily. Even seen 62mpg!

Round town (and I mean stop start stuff) about 36 - round town with more open runs, about 48mpg.

Just finished my first full tanks and not really taking it easy, I got 540 miles from a tank - works out at around average 45mpg. I am used to a lot that having had a 5 series BMW diesel :)

I have managed over 400 miles to a tank but would not try to do it again....

Overall, my car manages 31 ish to the gallon......

I also went from tdi130 to 2.0 tfsi.

My consumption dropped from 42 to 29mpg.

Mainly 7 mile commute 50/50 town/dual carriageway

Update.

I went for a test drive today in the 2.0 TFSI VRS. I was very impressed how quick it was. It was a very smooth ride and the brakes are superb! I was very impressed how it doesnt feel like a big car to drive and is very direct and responsive. Just counting the pennies now and working out my budget :)

Dooooo it.

I love my TFSI :D

standard ones are slooooow :giggle:

get one and get it mapped, and then you will have an awsome car, that coincidently is alittle better on fuel

I had factored a remap, air filter etc into the equation. If I buy it, I plan on about 240bhp. Not too much, but enough to give it an extra shove. Ive had a 300bhp Focus RS before and it just drank fuel like there was no tomorrow. :o So im staying on the conservative side of power...well till I catch the modifying bug again :giggle:

Listen to the little voices in your head..."do it, do it, do it"

Like you, I was very surprised how it didn't feel like I was driving a big car like I thought it would - I'm coming from a similar sized car to you (Ibiza)

up to stage 2 (250-260hp), in normal driving i could get 38mp+ on a long cruise, and 29-32 around town, so not to bad. since getting the uprated fuel pump itds gone down toabout 24-26mpg round tow and 31-33 on a cruise. but i do use the extra mid range grunt alot so that explains the drop i guess

itds gone down toabout 24-26mpg round tow and 31-33 on a cruise.

That would make me cry ;)

id have boufght the TDI if i was bother lol.

what made me cry was serving in germany for the last 8 years, not having to pay car tax, having cheaper car insurance and most importantly getting tax free fuel, and then being posted back to the UK where i was paying double what i did in germany.

germany tax free Vpower 100ron - £4.50 per 10 litres

uk- Vpower 99 ron - £1.15/litre or 11.50 per 10 litres.

that was a rude awakening

Well I bought the Octy today and pick it up on Tuesday morning. Its a 56 plate, cost £9995 and has only done 16809 miles! It is genuine miles as it was owned by a RAF officer. It is mint inside and out and there are no stone chips anywhere. The engine bay looks like it was just off the factory production line, its so clean! Very chuffed with the mileage and the price. Roll on Tuesday!

Well done a good choice. I wouldn't buy a TFSI VRS for the economy. You buy it for performance and worry about economy later. You should get 36-38 Mpg on a steady 70+ cruise down the motorway and if you need to overtake you can do it with supreme confidence.

Just got my Octavia and have ordered a K&N panel filter for it. However it is not plainly obvious how to access the air filter box, as it appears like the whole engine cover is integral with the air filter box? Is there a how to guide anywhere on here? I have searched but couldnt find one. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in anticipation

Have a 2007/56 TFSI and once managed 460 miles from brimmed to almost fumes (414 miles when the fuel 'bong' sounded). That was on a weekend trip to Norfolk and back from the South Coast.

Around town lucky to see 30 mpg (usually only 28 ish).
