TCS warning light ON

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a Skoda Octavia 1.9TDI 2001 and from yesterday the TCS light appears after the engine has started. I have not noticed anything else in the performance. Does anyone have any idead how to remove the warning light? I have tried pushing the ASR button but nothing happens, any help will be warmly appreciated.

Please can you help me on this...

Regards

If the battery is flat all kinds of lights can come on, did you jump start it or you have not driven it for a while?

Just drive it and they usually go out. Or you might have a faulty ABS sensor or something?

Have you got ESP?

If it's a 2001 car, isn't it a facelift Octy1 rather than an Octy 2?

In any event, I'd suggest giving it a really good rev (right into the governor for several seconds), and if that doesn't clear things then having the battery condition and the operation of the alternator sprague clutch checked

Ken, Can you clarify why revving a car to the limiter for several seconds will help to clear a fault with a Traction Control System??? Perhaps your misguided advice has caused more damage to the OP's car?

..another 'partial success' :wonder:

The last time I saw this fault, it was a sticky sprague clutch causing a low alternator output voltage, and the vibration at high engine speed cleared the mechanicial fault that was the actual issue rather than the logged fault.

OK. But why would a low Alt output throw up a TCS fault?? Surely a more normal warning would be a Battery light on the display??? Forgive my confusion on this matter.

got the breakdown guy to diagnose the problem he suspects due to heating plugs, left it with garage people now we'll see what happens tomorrow??

Copied from the Octavia owner's manual (PDF version [link available in the stickies IIRC]):-

Glow plug system  (diesel engine)

The warning light  lights up for a cold engine when switching on the ignition

(pre-heat position) 2 ⇒ page 95. Start the engine just as soon as the indicator light

goes out.

The glow plug indicator light will come on for about 1 second if the engine is at a

normal operating temperature or if the outside temperature is above +5°C. This

means that you can start the engine right away.

There is a fault in the glow plug system if the warning light  does not come on

at all or lights up continuously. Contact a specialist garage as soon as possible to

obtain assistance.

If the warning light  begins to flash while driving, a fault exists in the engine

control. The engine management system selects an emergency programme which

enables you to drive to the nearest specialist garage by adopting a gentle style of

driving.
