Rear Wiper Problems on Octy estate

Featured Replies

Coming home Saturday night. Heavy rain, Octy doing it's level best to hoover all the water onto the back window. Looks in the mirror, can't see a thing. Wipers have stopped.

Turned them off, then on again, they work.... BUT...

Over the next hour 3 options appear....

1. Wipers stop, turn off, turn on, they work, for a while

2. Wipers stop, turn off, tirn on again, they don't work, switch off again, leave a while, turn on, they work.

3. Wipers stop, turn off, turn on again, don't work, turn off again. Get occupied with traffic, glance at rear view mirror, it's clear!! Seems that the wipers have remembered the request and done a wipe, while switched off!

Needs to go in under warranty, but I like to think these problems through. I am guessing that there is a fault in the electronics that control the wipers and, therefore, there should be a fault code that will make it easy to diagnose?

Any thoughts, or experience of this?

Was the back shut properly? If the back is open then the wipers don't work.

Defnitiely!! Have Maxidot, so open boot would have shown on the screen. And they did work, but intrmittently, as described!!

Was just an idea in case the the door was bouncing on the switch so would sometimes appear open others shut.

SWMBO had a similar issue, on her new Fabia, but that wasn't intermittant as a connector had come undone!

Mine was intermitantely working, motor was faulty......

I'd get in in and changed under warranty, I have heard a few of them needing replacing.

Had a similar problem and it was an ECU chip fault. They replaced the chip and all was better. Also, on our car, had a bizarre impact of randomly changing the volume of the stereo as you go round corners! :wonder:
