Hi and welcome to the Forum,

sounds like the DPF could have been doing it's regen thing, new to DPF as well so sorry no expert. Had mine do one or two strange things which I have put down against DPF.

For it to regenerate it does have to get hot, therefore the fan running to keep everything else cool may be quite normal. You should I think have an oil temp reading in your Maxidot menu did you check that as well as radiator temp? Normally around the low 90's when engine warmed up.

Regards,

TP

Welcome :)

I would get it back to the dealers ASAP as clearly not all is well.....

I had a problem of a strong smell of burning rubber on two occasions. After the second time, I took my diesel SE back to the dealers. They checked it over and found nothing wrong. BUT the incident was noted in my record. (for guarantee purposes)

I suggest you do the same for your own peace of mind and for your records with your dealer.

Happened to me on the XF a couple of times, although not noticed it on the Yeti (but then I'm not the main driver). I put it down to the DPF regenerating, personally if everything else was normal then I wouldn't worry about it.

I would not worry at all.. The exhaust manifold/turbo, dpf and ALL surrounding parts get VERY hot during a forced regeneration cycle.. On a "new" engine, and on the pressed aluminium shields that work as heat insulation there might be oil residue from production, and when this get's hot it will produce a funny/scary smell.

Just give your Yeti a long good run with plenty of load and a steady throttle every now and then, and you will be just fine. If you notice that the idle speed is higher and the cooling fans are working hard, the next time it would be wiser to give the car a short round to let it do it's DPF regeneration instead of shutting down the engine. To many aborted regeneration cycles could cause a filled up DPF, and that again could lead to an unplanned visit to your dealer.

:)

When my wifes car regens, the instantaneous mpg goes up, as it's burning more fuel.

Not sure what the yeti displays at standstill ?

You are correct Gilesmengland  I don't remember the exact numbers, but a guess would be 0,6 l / hour when it's not regenerating, and maybe around 0,9-1,2 l / hour when it's regenerating. All numbers are "guesstimates" and at idle with a warm engine.

When my wifes car regens, the instantaneous mpg goes up, as it's burning more fuel.

Why are people refereing to the instantaneous mpg in Litres/hour?? Is that the units which the Yeti displays it in? I can't really see how useful a reading in litres/hour is to the driver?

Depends on the location of the Monster; the SMOC is very much an International Organisation B)

What is displayed depends on if the car is moving or at standstill.. My car displays litres per hour at standstill, and litres per 10km on the move. A car meant for the UK will display mpg on the move and probably gallons per hour??? on the move. B)

Hi all,

It cannie be the DPF the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) is for diesels and the 1.2 is not a diesel. Get it checked I would guess but

I'm also guessing it may just be the underseal and stuff burning off....

All the best

Jerry

He wrote "2l" not "1.2".

Shoulda gone to SpecSavers ?

The original poster complains about the burnt oil smell from his 2 l 2WD Yeti... Not a 1,2 litre.

Ooops I was looking at the 1.2 forum at the same time...

Not to worry, I got a little mixed up between petrol and diesel model and what had 4x4 and what did not a few weeks ago, it is quite easy to make assumptions that it is one fuel or another or 2 or 4 wheel drive. It is not always clear from the original post.

The display is in litres/hr when you are not moving.

You can select litres/100 km or km/litre or MPG in the mutidot display.

Hi Many thanks for your replys.

Not driven more than 15 mils since the overheating but all seems to be OK,it seems the more I drive the YETI the more I like it ,must say it's a great help to have your input.

I had a problem signing in to reply,I seem to be a bit thick when using thease things.will report back if any further problem. thanks again.

Welcome BOOSTERROOSTER to the land of the infirm...

I did have the fans running on one evening after the engine was switched off for a few minutes. Started it up again and then off and the fan(s?) went off as normal. It was a normal run home so perhaps it was doing its Dr Who regeneration thing.

So now I have something else to look at on my Maxidot display - fuel consumption whilst stationary! Excellent - will be fun to see what difference the air con and stuff makes. Traffic light waiting will be much more fun now. emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Oh, and ROOSTERBOOSTER, don't forget to make your mark on the SMOC list:

Tragic :giggle:

With a new car you sometimes get a stink as it burns off excess paint from the exhaust pipe silencer; noticed it a lot when I drove for Vauxhall Fleet, delivering new cars to customers.
