Fabia VRS taking ages to warm up

Featured Replies

Ive noticed that when i start up my Fab VRS from cold its taking quite a long time for the oil to reach temperature(normally about 4-5 miles).Im not sure if this is normal as ive never owned a diesel before or if i need to get the oil changed.Im making sure when driving it when cold i never go over 2k revs which is frustrating as i never seem to hit 60 on my way into work.

Do you have an additional oil temp guage to know it's not warming up ?

That's par for the course for a diesel. I personally don't stick to a 2k limit while the engine's warming up, but avoid harsh acceleration all the same. I may be in a minority with this, but it's seen me right over 87k miles (famous last words...)

I agree Ap0gee, i dont stick to a strict rev limit, just make sure i dont labour the engine too much (now on 103K), after all, sticking to really low revs may cause the engine to take even longer to warm up.. On a 45 min journey to work, it takes at least 15 mins to get up to full temp and depends if i've got the heaters on in the car or not..

(Oh, I miss the Thanks button!)

It is because diesels are so more efficient then petrols and this is why it takes longer to warm up on a cold morning. If it takes longer than normal cold mornings then it could be the thermostat stuck open.

I like you try to keep it below 2k revs, if not certainly do not use full throttle/boost when cold.

That's pretty typical for a modern diesel. There's another discussion on the subject where it's pointed out that 2_000rpm is about 60mph for the 110, and I'd have thought more for a 130 with the 6-speed, and also that you're unlikely to be in anyone's way (if anything other people will be in yours) using 3/4 throttle and shifting at 2_000.

As everyone else said, its normal.

In fact, earlier this year when I was stuck on the motorway for four hours due to snow, the cars temperature was dropping! I had to keep revving the engine just to keep it warm....
