Faulty injector

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a X reg Fabia 1.9 TDi. It has developed a faulty injector. Intermittently mis-firing, sometimes it is almost un-drivable.

I'm told by the Skoda dealer that it is the injector on cylinder 1. THey have quoted me £400 for a new injector and £200+ for labour to change. It seems rather expensive to me! The car was only valued at £750 a year ago, so I'm reluctant to pay this on an old car.

Shame though, as otherwise the car is terrific.

Anybody have any advice? Is the injector easy to remove and re-fit? Can it be refurbished? Can I get a second hand part? Anybody know any part numbers or where I can get it cheaper?

Thanks people

Cheers

If you can find a part number i may be able to source a second hand unit for you...

Either that, PM me your chassis number and i'll take a look for you..

Thanks

Kev

Careful getting that injector out. I once had a Land Rover and read that to take stuck injectors out , remove clamps, put ether in the cylinder and turn it over. To catch the injector I put a coat over the engine.

It certainly moved the injector. There was a big bang. The injector went straight through the coat. I never found it. Thank heavens that there was nobody in range. :o

PD injectors are different..

Have to take cam out etc..

sounds about the right sort of price for a PD injector,

there was a time when i worked for a Ford dealership that it was cheaper to buy a complete engine than to buy 4 injectors, as the new engine came with the injectors already fitted

for the OPs information, there have been issues with the injector wiring looms, the looms are inside the head, hence covered in oil, the connectors can fail giving misfires, iirc the looms are about £70

I thought the injectors came out without actually removing the cam? You just had to remove the top clamp bits that links the injector pumps to the cam once the cam was in the position that had maximum extension on the spring on the injector. I could well be totally wrong of course lol as I have never actually done it myself - just trying to remember from when my mate and I used a dial gauge when installing my last set. :)

Also, PD injector units are relatively plentiful on Ebay for the pd100 / pd115 (same ones I believe) so you should be able to get a decent 2nd hand one for no more than £100 tops. Fitting it could be done by any garage - will happily provide you with a PDF guide to removing & installing if you PM me an email address. ;)

Not any garage, garages that a. have the tool to remove it safely and b. know how to locate it back into the head properly (it has to be inexactly the correct position for fuel to flow through the head into the injector,

And really the cam should be removed and clearances checked afterwards emoticon-0148-yes.gif
