New Side Light power LED's

Featured Replies

I forget who it was, but when I first passed someone said to me

"If it's the right situation for sidelights then it's the right situation for dipped beam" And I've gone by that ever since.

I did give LED side lights some thought as the standards are kinda dim.. but then, I just drive with dipped beam on anyway so didn't bother changing them.

I'm one of those drivers who always has his lights on I'm afraid, and it's mainly because I noticed that you DO see cars with their lights on sooner in all conditions.

As for MoT passes, my current steed had LEDs fitted when I bought it. Wasn't really a fan but they matched the xenons much better than standard fit bulbs. BUT they failed an MoT with them in the other week and they weren't as blue as Sausage's above either. The failure note was for having 'a bulb showing a blue light to the front'.

Its horses for courses, but just something to bear in mind. With the tightness of the MoT regs these days and the chances of testers being spot checked, I don't think many are taking any chances these days. This is a place I've used for years so know they wouldn't mess about; in fact the guy apologised as it's the only failure note I've ever had! :)

Steve

Looks like a potential police pull if sidelights only on I'm afraid.

TBH I don't very often drive with just the side lights on. In fact I don't think I ever do!

The whole point was just to give a better, brighter light output. I feel that I have achieved this with these LED's and am happy with the outcome. Also the 'blueish' look doesn't look as blue in person as it does in the photos.

I would have said for safety! Daytime running lights (lights on all the time at the front for visibility) are supposedly going to be standard fit required by law at some point (unless things have changed since I last checked)/

Next year sometime, but only for new cars. It will take some time until all cars without drls vanish from the road.

well i just put some prism super bright quad led's in my car and they are great realy bright (one does seem brigher or differnt to the other though strangely!) ill show some pics when i take some!

i changed because i drive with sidelights on all the time in the day and dusk (im a biker so its just natural to me) and i thought they would last longer,

Passed loads of coppers now going the other way and i think they just think they are DTRL, starngley after being pulled over at dusk by a newish copper for having a car full of lads (aparently they are told to suspect something if you have a car full of lads :giggle: ) im guessing it was a normal stop check, tho he did get evryone out the car and had a good look in! (usual good cop bad cop routine aswell) he commented on a young guy such as myself owning a skoda (made him laugh by saying the beige seats complemented my smoking jacket!) and also comented on the sidelights saying "those sidelghts are good and bright, are they daytime running lights mind you the car is a bit old to have them" i said i like having the sidelights on and swapped to led's and nothing else was said. i gota say i think it depends on the led's as to weather they are illegal or not!

for my first run in with the cops where they have been questioning me instead of me giving evidance i gota say that pair i ran into where very profesional and quite friendly! (and the volvo's are lavisly eqiuped! leather seats and a vent for rear pasengers lol!)

anyway mini seminar over!! :p B)

gota say this is quite a good thread!

I have been driving for 2 years and have always driven with dipped on, and my dad and my younger brother do the same

Thats because of the OP B)

Get some pics of yours up and so I can compare. I've just ordered some new ones which were a bit more expensive than the last ones to see if they are any better. Did you get LED's with metal casings on the outside so they cope better with the heat from the headlights?

nope they were plastic however i got myself some heat reflective material and put that on them works a treat!! as i said only wierd thing is that one seems different to the other colour wize lmao!! B)

They look less 'blue' than the ones I have. Looking like they give out some serious light though

Just keep an eye on them over the coming months though as they will start to fade/melt usually as they can't cope with the constant heat! (Lets see if your heat reflective material is up to the job) ;)

you can get blue ones i went for the white ones as they match the osram nightbreakers nicely and yh the amound of light is mad!!

the heat reflective material is the stuff they put behind radiators and its prety damn good.

I've got the led ones in mine and ive never been pulled over, plus my headlights are tinted and i haven't been pulled over!! Get really dodgy looks from the coppers tho. lol
