Alternator/battery question?

Featured Replies

Hi All

I need a bit of help.....

relating to a superb elegance 1.9 pd 130

The alternator warning message popped up yesterday so when out and checked the voltages with the car running and its just above 11v (not good)

So i have been looking around to see if i can see a guide on how to replace it not had much luck so far.

Have any of you managed to replace an alternator and how hard or easy is it on this car.

also any tips or suggestions would be helpful.

I was also thinking of changing the battery at the same time any info on how hard that is to do?

also would any one know the type ie physical size and power rating that would also be greatly appreciated.

Cheers........

hi mate welcome to the forum.

just had mine changed on my 1.9 tdi (85kw)superb

got this one off ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/A295-Skoda-Superb-1-9-TDi-2002-120amp-Alternator_W0QQitemZ370308043504QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item56381452f0

touch wood seems to be working fine.

not a job i would tackle.i also put on a new alternator belt about £15

and a tensioner from gsf (about £75)

the good thing about buying these is they are not exchange so you could get the

original one serviced for a few quid and have it ready for the next time you need one.

the guy who fitted mine .said he removed front bumper moved fan and rad forward,

he then had to slip off the aircon belt to gain access to the alternator belt.

mine is a taxi so the alternator is gonna get quite a good test so i will report back later.

Thanks John.

Gave them a call they are not to far from me. very friendly and helpful.(told me to check the p/n to make sure there one will be ok and said i can pick one up from them tomorrow :) )

looks like i will probably go with them seems like a good price considering skoda quoted 500+ to fit.

£130 + £100 for the bits or £500 to be honest I think i will give it a try myself money is still tight after Christmas.

Thanks for your help.....
