2.016v abf or 2.0 8v?

Featured Replies

Im looking at doing an engine conversion into my 1.6 felly estate with either of the above engines. Ive sourced a full mk3 gti 8v for a cheap sum ;) but was wondering which would be the better of the 2 to do a conversion with. Also, what is the felly estate based on chassis wise?

Thanks in advance

Dave

the felly is loosley based on golf 2 stuff but lots of bits are skoda's own like w'bones etc

have a word with teflontom as i believe he did a 2.0 conversion..

i have a 2.0 16v vauxhall in mine lol so kinda a bit more involved than toms conversion..

Im looking at going faster for as cheap as possible :) Ive read his build thread but its just baffled me i need to see things in the flesh to understand them i can use words and pics  just wondered what other parts i would need to make the conversion happen

the easy way is to use a 1.6 16v polo engine, it will bolt up using the felicia 1.6 parts (gearbox adaptor, flywheel. etc)

and not any heavyier than the std 1.6

The ABF is a very tall engine, it may not fit!

but if it does would be the much better engine, seen these putting out over 180bhp with a little work

Indeed - my mate had a Mk3 Golf with one, cat back exhaust, panel filter... rolling roaded at 180bhp!

may not?? it will fit it it's put in at the correct angle, leaning back 15 degrees from upright, but to do that you would not be able to use any of the skoda parts and would require a lot of custom work...

the polo 1.6 16v engine is a good bet but the difficulty would making the damned thing run!! so it might cost you a few shillings to get it all under way

personally i like the idea of a 2.0 8v for sheer ease of fitting, you could use quite a lot of the parts from a felicia diesel... again the main headache here would be wiring it in but i'm sure there's somebody here who could help with that.... <<

oh i should say i would be interested in doing/helping out with any of these conversions if you are in my area (shropshire/herefordshire/wales). i'm always up for a challenge lol, currently i run a 2.0 16v vauxhall in my felicia and a 1.6 16v vw in in a mates (both rally cars)

Given that Awesome GTi have done a Felly VR6, I think it's safe to say that a 2.0 16v will fit if set at the right angle.
