Door and Boot Rubbers

Featured Replies

My previous Octy 1 had rubber door and boot seals that did not have any holes in.

My new Octy II vRS has door and boot rubber seals with regular holes equally spaced along the entire length.

I believe that this may be a design flaw and would like the experience of others?

When I had the car from new, I had the' leaky seal over the doors' problem, but after pulling/stretching the seals out sideways and massaging them this seems to have permanently gone away now.

The current problem is around the boot/hatch seal and many of you may not have even noticed this, if it affects you. Water gets in through one or more of the holes and actually inside of the seal tube, settling along the lowest bottom edge, actually filling up with water! If you pinch one end and slide your finger along from the other, you can get the water to squirt out of the holes! I noticed this recently in the cold snap as the water in the seal actually froze solid.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Do you have' holey' seals or solid ones?

Thanks in advance

holey ones

I have exactly this problem. The weird thing is the holes in the boot seal are all on the inside of the boot opening, so while the boot is closed they're not exposed to the rain anyway. I fixed it by putting a small hole in the outside of the seal at the bottom corner so it could drain. It did make a few nasty noises over the winter while the seals were frozen, but that isn't likely to happen again for another 30 years...

I noticed drops getting in over the driver's door once, but I was driving in a gale force cross wind with driving rain on the side of a mountain and probably 2 drops got in... I'm wondering if the wind noise at high speed is due to door or boot seals. It's been blamed on the seals around the fixed glass in the rear doors AFAIK though - I'll be asking about it at the dealer when it's in for a service within the next month anyway.

The holes are MEANT to be there - they let out air, which would otherwise cause the seal to be under pressure when the door is closed. Quite deliberate and you should nto be blocking them, or making more. Designers spenet ages setting these so leave them alone! All cars will be the same, when they used to make seals without them they split, became mishaped etc. They have had holes for years, though maybe less visibly than these ones.
