I'm too Hot

Featured Replies

Hi every one,

You might all think I'm mad but have just driven two hundred miles with the heater on full heat. Had to have a window open all the way home. does not make any difference what setting the aircon is on. If its set to auto and Lo it still coming out the vents etc very hot. Has anyone had a similar fault and how to rectify please.

Don't laugh but my son came home yesterday in his Astra Estate. His heating is either full off or full on - nothing in between.

He said that he fiddled with it yesterday afternoon with somebody who is an Astra "expert". In their world there is a heating resistor pack (cost £25) which is apprantly notorious for causing this problem. Vauxhall delivering a new part on Monday.

I'm just wondering if there is a similar electrical resistor pack in the Octavia?

Dare say somebody here more expert than I will come up with the exact answer.

Assuming it's the climatronic, then one of the flap motors has gone or the temperature sensor.

Thanks for the reply. I did think that there would be some sort of flap in the system, but was not sure as I have never had climatronic before on any car. It would seem that the flap is in the full heat position as even with the system off there is still hot air coming through the vents. Dont suppose you know of any quick check to verify that its the motor.

A scan with Vagcom would probably pick up a fault code for this.

You can test the Climatronic system through the diagnostic codes. To put into diagnostic mode press Fan Down, Temperature Colder and ECON buttons at the same time. Ignition must be on.

Scan through the test channels. I believe that channel 1 is the interior temperature, channels 6 and 7 are the temperatures sensed at the foot space and centre-vent.. If a sensor has failed, it could try to raise the temperature. There is a lot more information available on various VAG forums as this system is widely uses. Some of the channels refer to flap positions, intended flap position and difference errors so can be used to find a stuck flap too. Most of the information I have found is in German which I don't read very well.

Try searching on line and trying the diagnostics. To come out of diagnostic mode, just switch off the ignition.

Hope this helps.

No promises, but with Climatronic a random poke at all the buttons sometimes clears a stuck flap valve.

Very many thanks for the info I will have a go at the weekend in daylight and after downloading the codes, did have a quick look today and 1 code came up as 660c. If thats temperature sensor then its a little high
